i think i'm going to make this a 'public' aquarium .. i'll recruit local kids for summer camp & extra curricular activies ... have them clean the skimmer every other day.

Jereme is giving me a headeach. Now that he'll be stocking BKs I'm having problem deciding which one should i get to replace my ER CS12. Should I get BK300, BM300, or RF ORCA for my 500g total volume tank setup?

a local has one of the large BK's .. and i have to say .. they are NICE! he loves it! it makes plenty of nasty skimmate.

HOWEVER they are expensive.

I opted for the lesser expensive skimmer. IS this skimmer as NICE, and pretty as teh BK? no - i do not have bright reds, and white .. i have grey & black. Is this skimmer as energy efficient as the BK? no - but it still doesn't draw as much as an equivalently rated becket.

If you can swing the extra money for the BK .. go that route ... if you want to be bit more 'conservative' (you wouldn't be in this hobby lol) then look into the reeflo.

My neighbor has a bk500. I love it but not really that impressed. However the resale for bk is a lot better because of it rarerity in the US. But now that PA is stocking this skimmer, I'll be lossing that rare BK feeling.

However, keeping a RF under your hood gives you that macho feeling of owning a DNW skimmer.

Here is picture of my neighbor's bk 500

The BK 200 internal is close to the same $ as the Reeflo on the PA website.

Not saying one is better than the other but if you MUST have a BK...

once you are in the 400g tank ranch you don't care about money anymore. Just think about how much you would pay a month for electric bill $500.

I will officially be joining the club here shortly. I cancelled the BK I had on order and ordered the dart instead.

As long as this skimmer performs as good as everyone is saying, it'll be more then enough for my cube. :)

thats not true.
My power bill came in yesterday ... $215 (give or take $5) .... that includes house & tank.
2,100 SQFT (living) house. Full AC.

What are the specs on this thing in inches? Its 12" diameter? How large is the neck and total height?

You're right wizsmaster. I exaggerated my electric bill. But before I had my tank I was only paying less than a $100 a month. But now with the tank I spend an average of $350 here in CA. However, my neighbor since he uses his central AC to cool down his tank his paying $500 on electric bill. His tank is same size as mine but he uses two 1000w MH bulbs. Our electricity here in CA is a lot more expensive that anywhere else.

What Im trying to point is that nothing is cheap anymore wants you have a tank setup above 400g.

Thanks JR, quite a monster!

Hi,

I would like to know how noisy are these skimmers, because my reef is in my leaving/dinner room...Noise is a concern to me.

Best Regards!

They are not all that noisey, but you can hear the pump.

The air intake is near silent with the silencer. The pump just makes some sound from choppingt eh air & the needle wheel.
I believe if you had it in your stand, it would ber very close to being quiet.

I was told it is near silent. Everyone states that the small amount of noise these skimmers make get drowned out by everything else running on their system.

Mine 2 are almost slient. I can't hear them over the fans or anything else i have running in my systems...

Nick
