A little airflow coming out of the drain is fine as that is what keeps it unclogged. You just don't want the air output restricted or make the lid hoover. The new RS cups should be ideal.

Understood. I only bored it out slightly. There was indeed a decrease in airflow through the drain, but it's still just a little high for me.

well i was looking at it on my i phone ...now i look at it on my home comp i retract that comment.... looks more like porta pottie water.....

doesn't porta potty water usually have a blue look to it? ROFL!

I guess that depends on how many guys had beans for lunch on the construction site. lol

picking up a RMC.

Just got back from my local lowes .. as always ... didn't have anything worth a hoot.
I did pickup a brass straight fitting ... was able to get it to pull right at ~120SCFH & ~155w

It should ... it's based on a 1/2" inner bore, instead of 3/8's.

But then again .. should & does are about 4 worlds apart.

Just put a 200 together and I was thinking of placing the metric adaptor into the outlet pipes union like pictured below. This would allow future changes ( if needed ) to be accommodated easily without worrying about acquiring metric PVC.

This would require the use of another valve as the metric wedge valve could no longer be employed.

Has anyone had any leakage problems with the fittings that use the silicone o-rings and locking bolts with jam nuts? These connections make me uncomfortable and I worry about the o-rings abilities to maintain a seal once they get some age on them especially on the pressure side of the pump.

I suppose you could do it. I like the idea of the gate-valve better than the wedge pipe. you really wouldn't need the T on the output anymore, as long as you vent/keep the pipe above the water surface.

I guess i missed it, what size did u drill the vent holes in the lid? Has an ideal size been determined for the upgraded cup?

I was hoping you can all help me choose. I have been give the okay by the wife to get a high end skimmer and I have settled on this model, but not sure which one out of the 200 or 250. Now I have a 210 with a 70 gallon sump. SPS system with about 10 large fish. My future plans at most are going to be a 300 gallon with the same sump. Would a 200 be fine for me and then later upgrade the cup and nw at a later date or spend the extra 400 on the 250. Thanks

Just Dave - You will still need the vent tee IMO. I have two on my line and pockets of air still come out of the output. You setup looks like it will work fine. All I would do is add a tee to vent right above were you have your metric to english adapter.

I don't think that would be a good idea ... since he has a gate valve AFTER the converter. He would want the vent T AFTER the gate valve.

Thanks Wizsmaster. Your completely right. I ment to say that I would place the valve right above the output with a tee directly above it. I say this because there is a decent amount of air that makes it to the drain and this will help purge it and keep the skimmer at a steady level. I am just afraid that air pockets can accumulate in the sutup above.
