Hi reefers, im new around here. Ive been using reeflux 12k bulbs for the past 8 months. Love the colour but i heard recently that they are not that good. Just want some comfirmation from the reeflux users, or past users of what you reefers think.

I run 2x250 DE on my 58, 2x 250 SE on my frag, and 2x 400w SE on my 180. I can't say I have any complaints. I love the color of the Radium's at 400w, but they go quick.

Rokle when you say they go quick how long have you been using them and how quickly do you think that they go. I love the color and had not have an issue with the growth.

That was in reference to the Radium's. I ran my Radium's on HQI, which overdrives them and shortens the life. So far my Reeflux seem to be lasting a while (although I don't have a light meter to see how much they've dropped in value).

Oh ok that was my misunderstanding. Yeah I know I want to get one of those par meter one of these days to test my par values

i have run them for a few years with good results. The 400w are much nicer than the 250w. I run them on an e-ballast and they seem to last for 8 months.

Looks like there isn't much reeflux users out there.:D

And there is many more where that came from... Reeflux are fantastic - high PAR 50/50 blue/white bulb and will change the color of your coral. I cant tell you how many green, grey, or brown coral have gone blue or purple. Give it some time.

I just installed two 400W Reeflux 12K on 400W Coralvue ballasts. I love the look of the tank as compared to my IceCap 250W with Geismann DE Coral lamps. If you take time to examine the spectral graphs on Sanjay's Lighting info site, you'll see that these lamps produce a very impressive spectrum. Much like a 20K bulb, but with broader peaks on the graph than a 20K. Since the area under the peaks indicates quantity of light, that means lots of PAR in the two areas of the spectrum that are most important to the photosynthesis process of SPS. Here is the graph:

Hey Mike,

Lighting is definitely key but flow, balanced alk/ca, and feeding with proper nutrient export is just as important if not more so. Sorry to hear you are not having the same success as many others using 12K reeflux. Maybe there is something else going on in your tank besides lighting keeping your reef from thriving.

Under the right conditions they will definitely shine:

Hey RokieM and Jim are the double ended 250W RL 12ks the same color as the single ended ones in Mikes tank?

i have 3x250's on lumatek E-ballasts and once i adjusted to the blue (went from XM10k's) i love em and even added more vho actinic. growth is good and if my parameters were in check i bet it would be great.

My 2x250 DE's are on HQI, the SE on an electronic. The colors are pretty close to the same (if that's what you're asking). The 400 SE's on the HQI ballast overdriven are a little crisper white.

I also have HQI ballasts and SE 400w are always nicer looking IME, but i was just hoping for the same color as in the pics bubbletip took of mikes tank.

do you run actinics on your 58 Eric? got some pics?

1 UV Super Actinic in back, 1 Korallen-zucht Fiji Purple in front (PhishyBusiness has them).

Old, old pic, need a new one. I'll try to remember to grab one tomorrow.

I need to get an updated shot but here's one I took a few months back. Things have grown immensely since then.

At this time I find the Reeflux 12k is my bulb of choice. Lighting my reef with a great natural appearance, providing excellent light to my corals and producing great growth and color in my corals.

I have 4 x 250DE on mine running with coralvue ballast. It was blue initially and then bright white. Give the tank a very natural color. Been running only a couple of months -- hope they last.

Hey JR Aquatics, what is your lighting schedule?

First MH light comes on at 2:30 pm then other two in 15 min. increments after and the last one goes out at 9:30pm in the opposite direction in which the start. I add another hour in the fall/winter.
