thanks man. Yeah I was really pleased. I have seen a lot of lubbocks in the past at my local store, but not as nice as this one. I was just going to go with some cardinals and some bangai's for my first fish, but I couldn't pass this fish up. You should see the velvet and hawaiian xmas wrasse at the store :dance: If all goes well, I might have to go back and get one. :rollface:

You would be ok with T5s or 250MH. IMO you dont need to do 400w unless you want to, make sure you have a chiller if you do though.

If you go with 250w MH or 400w MH make sure you use 20k Radium, par is ok and color is good, thats if youre going for a single bulb.

If you want t5s go with 24" fixture, 8 bulbs.

T5s will cost you more than a 250w MH unit. The bulbs will run you 160-200 a year compared to 1 bulb at 80. Power consumption isnt much less with t5s either only 50watts less. The only thing you get with t5s is custom color combination. This is what I have t5s for. I used to run a single Phoenix 14k for years and got sick of only 1 color. I never found the right bulb to make all my corals pop. T5s allow you to tailor to your specific corals.

No problem thanks for your advice. I still haven't got my light yet. I would love to go with an 8 bulb 24" ATI fixture, but they are really pricey. If I could find one for around $500 used, I would jump on it.
As of right now, I am leaning towards a 400W lumenbright pendent with a radium, with a coralvue dimmable ballast. I plan on running it dialed down.
I really don't think there is another T5 fixture out there comparable to the ATI in 24".

What else would you guys suggest in lighting. I really don't want to spend anymore then $500.

On a side note, I got my mesh for my screen top. I will be going to hardware tom, to get the other supplies.

my parents have two (2) King Charles Cavalier Spaniel and they are excellent animals. Folly is blenheim (orange and white) and Star is tri-color (white, black, and orange). Folly is 'big-boned' and Star, well Star is scrappy. She barks at squirrels pecking at the bird feeder and at any other dogs; whether 10lbs or 200lbs!!
 
Yeah Lucas is a great dog. He doesn't have a mean bone in his body. Nicest and most cuddly animal that I know off. We hope to get another soon.
 
The King Charles' really take care of one another and especially their owners!! Absolutely incredible how the animal bonds to its owner and does not live his/her side when the owner is under the weather!!

My fiance named him Columbus because he is the first settler. haha lol. I got to include her in some sort of way.
Columbus is doing really well, he is eating mysis and is exlporing the tank a little more now. He is a little shy, so I am glad he was my first fish.
He is showing great coloration...
I will be ordering my lighting tom.
Going with:
Large lumenbright fixture
400 Watt dimable coralvue ballast
20K radium Bulb.
Still thinking on what hanging kit I should get.

Really like it so far, I think that is a good choice with the lumen bright reflector and radium bulb. JMO but I think a 250W could do the job as well using that reflector. Are you going with mostly SPS?

Thanks for that. I think I am leaning more towards a 250 W with an HQI ballast. So I don't know what the numbers will be, but it will be overdriven.

OK, last night I just put together my screen top. This is a really simple thing to do and took me about an hour.
All you need is"
-Tape measure to measure the dimension of your tank. my case it is 28"X28" with the black plastic.
-Screen making kit. I got mine at Lowes for $10
-Mesh- I got mine from this guy on reefcentral. He has plenty more and here is the link to his screen build. http://www.*********.com/forums/f30/light-friendly-clear-mesh-screen-cover-29897.html.
Mesh cost me $10 shipped. You can't buy this stuff unless you buy it in bulk. So it is a great deal getting what you need from him. Just tell him your tank dimensions and he will cut you a piece and send it priority.

I just measure out the dimensions of my tank, Cut the four pieces at 28" including the end connectors.

I had to make a slit for my heater wire in my overflow so I took the hack saw and cut a slit like this.

Here is the finished product. I would have liked it to be black so that it would blend in. I could spray paint it if I wanted to. Maybe some other day, but I feel that it looks good.

I think the silver color gives a nice bit of contrast, but if you want to I'm sure you can still paint it black.
