reefpack 500

meow?

Hi Roger or anyone else that owns one,

Does this unit produce any kind of noise that I shoud be aware of?
I'm planning on purchasing one of these units here in the near future with the Bio-Hydro-Reactor. The tank this unit will used in is in a bedroom so the noise issue is very important.

seagram,
I've been running one (at a point, two of them) for awhile now and for the most part they're pretty quiet. The only part that I found that makes any noise is the skimmer sucking air. It's not real noisy but could be a distraction if it's in a bedroom, on an open top tank and you're a light sleeper. If the tank had a canopy on it, I don't think it would be much of an issue.

Rob or Roger,

I just set the reefpack 500 up and I'm getting a buzzzzzing sound. (this is without the skimmer being turned on) simple fix or is this how the mechanical side suppose to sound?

No, it's not suppose to sound like that. The filter when running should be dead silent even from a few inches away (I just turned my skimmer off to verify this). If you're getting a buzzing sound then I would think something isn't seated correctly such as the pump or filter cartridge. Also, I notice that sometimes my skimmer cup buzzes from a slight vibration and just touching it will make it stop.

If these things don't take care of the problem I'm sure Roger will be along shortly to help out.

HTH

The noise is usually from the bush bearing slipping down in transit. It is the collar around the impeller well. Just take out the pump and press it back in. If it was in all the way, pry it out and rotate it 180 and reinsert it, they are a bit noisier when new.

Rob and Roger,

I took the pump out and rotated the collar thingy it still buzzzs. I guess I'll give it a few weeks to see if it calms down.

thanks to both of you I'll get back to this thread in a few weeks with hopefully queiter results.

It really shouldn't buzz, did you push it in firmly? Maybe give it a week and if no improvement send me a PM and I'll get you taken care of.
