Reefpak 200 mounting height question

Hello,

I got my Reefpak 200 about a year and a half ago. It is on a 30 gallon cube tank.

To be honest the skimmer has never really performed well, unlike all the other Tunze products I own.

Then I read on this forum something about the Tunze 9002 skimmer should be mounted at a height so the water level is 1/2" below the water level line on the outside of the skimmer, not at the water level line like the instructions say, because the North American pumps are more powerful than the European pumps.

The problem is, raising the level of the Reefpak 200 will raise the input for the filter above the water level.

What is the optimal solution to this problem?

I have had the same problem with one that I own. Remove the magnet mount assembly from the rear of the filter and skimmer. They are secured with plastic screws, move the filter one screw set lower than that of the skimmer. It will allow for the correct height of both units at this point. Works great once this is done!

Well I was thinking of either doing that, or cutting an intake notch for the filter 1/2" lower, or somehow making the skimmer neck longer (higher).

Roger will be online a little later this week and will be better able to help you with this question. he is on his way to MACNA and will check the forum when he gets a chance. Please don't do any cutting until you talk to him because if it's only a year and half old it's still under warranty and might be able to be fixed if defective, but if you do any cutting it may void the warranty.

The staggered magnet mount is the perfect solution. Just attach the filter with the lower screw holes and the skimmer with the upper screw holes.
