Reefstock March 8th at the Curtis Hotel

yeah...I'm sure some people walked out with exactly what they wanted and got a good deal. PM me the name of your shop and I'll stop by and see what you have.

Yeah, I got there at 11:30 and had to fight my way into the frag tanks. I wasnt too impressed by that set up. They had 2 6ft tables with a frag tank on each with about 100 people around each one trying to buy frags.

I was watching the first speaker when they served lunch and when we got back there was nothing left.

I was dissapointed with the vender set up also. Seems like they brought whatever they had lying around their shop. Nothing too spectacular.

I will say I got some great frags for some great prices so it was worth it for me.

Also, I thought it was like a unwritten rule that if your the one benefiting and throwing the raffle, your Officials or "the people that work for you" dont get too enter the drawing. There was a bunch of stuff raffled off and about half of it went to the guys wearing staff shirts.

wow big disappointment

wow big disappointment

i do have to say this really was a let down. Got there when doors opened an it was a mad dash to frag tanks. only two by the way. Then you had to fight to look around. Wow never really knew some people were so rude. very small displays. some areas had no one attending them "aqua". the dry good were a great disappointment. very little to no stock. food was gone in the firs 10 min. most people that i talked to were starving a let down. then to have to wait for any speakers. this all could have been don in 3 hours. I do have to say they had a great turn out but most were gone in the first hour. maybe better planning and stocking for next year might do some good. just my opinion though.

Sorry i gave it a big thumbs down though.

240, 90, 75 60 30 nano 24 nano.

no the rule about the raffles, is if you buy a ticket you get the chance to win the raffle-the staff has no advantage to to this stuff.

I'm sure thers a lesson learned here & the next one will be better. Don't get disscouraged over a few minor details.

They are 8' x 2' tanks and SMCAS donated space to the Denver and RMRC persons so that they didn't have to bring their own tanks for set up. We were limited to the space on the wooden floor for anything with water in it by the hotel.

As for the food, there were people seen walking away with 2 and 3 sandwiches on their plates, thank them for no food.

Anyone can buy raffle tickets and win and you know what? Most of the people who spent the money on the tickets were us from SMCAS. Very Few people from out of town spend much on tickets. The ones who did win, spent $40-60 on tickets and a lot of us spent that much and got nothing. BTW, the sunburst anemonea went to a DARC member and the Aquamart tank went to a lady from Denver.

For the most part, I heard nothing but good things from most of the persons that attended. Yes the tank area was crowded but it is like that at a lot of these events as you have logistics and need to maximize what you have to use. There were NO vendors who wanted to sell frags turned away and some even showed up at the last minute and room was made for them.

If you have suggestions on how to do this better, we are all ears, we would love to hear from you!

Well, lets see. there was about 250 people or so through the door in the first hour or so. There were about 1000 frags, and the vendors were there to promote products, not really sell stuff. Were you expecting to buy reef nutrition? or a ReeFlo Dart? as far as the food, Jake paid for food for 70 people or so I believe, and well the turnout was huge, so that will have to be addressed next time. As far as ONLY two frag tanks, well, lets look at how they were stocked. they were probably 95% full, so honestly a third tank would have been a waste. As far a frags, lets see, there were tons of acans, micromussa, SPS, Zoa's, and Rics. What were you expecting, we can let them know next time. I think the livestock vendors brought a little of everything. as far as "staff winning everything" well lets see, staff didn't win the skimmer, staff didn't win the master test kit, staff didn't win 3 of the 4 large corals, and staff didn't win the $800 cube. there were people still walking in @ 3 and 4 looking to buy corals. Yes there are some things that could have been done better, but that's what next year is for. we can take constructive criticism and make next years better.

There was a lot of frags thats about all I can say. Got there a little after 12:00 and the food was already gone . I guess I expected more from the vendors section, I was ready to buy a skimmer or lights but there was nothing there. Picked up a few nice frags though.

Reeflo was selling the demo skimmer at 33% off at the end of the show. They also sold a Hammer head for $225.

I wonder how many of you that are upset were willing to get involved at all. Go out and get the sponsers and go help set up. Just talk to someone that did and you would know how much work really went into it. If you want things changed get involved!

We were at Reef ed to lobby support, your club did not

Some of us sponsors are not vendors in the marine hobbyist field (myself) and had no problem showing support. I didnt see too many volunteers from your club.

This was our first event of this type, expect problems. This is normal. The next one will be better... and you guys are more than welcome to support that too, but you wont.

As far as the lack of vendor setup... this event was tuned toward education and speakers NOT a frag swap. It wasnt called REEFSWAP it was REEFSTOCK. and I know several of the vendors dropped a lot of dough and effort to bring in some nice stuff for the event. If you didnt see it maybe you showed up too late. Maybe your too picky, maybe it's not your type of event.

I personally put a lot of effort into this event, and there are countless others who did as well. Not to mention Jake Adams who did this out of interest and didnt give up when at first it looked like he wasnt even going to break even. Why bring us down? If you want a larger show go to MACNA... I'm sure MAX will love to see you as well. But until people learn to work with each other and help build things up out here you wont see those things.

We're doing it, deal with it. And any one who wants to gripe about support requests and "what's in it for me" can come look at my IT Consulting firms books, where you will see my cash put in to sponsor the thing with little to no return what-so ever because I felt it would be good. And I think it was.

so until you put your money where your mouth is and try to work on a project like this... dont bring those of us who did down.

Are you involved in this hobby to support it or just to have something else to gripe about? Because if it's the latter... you might want to find a different hobby.

Its all good guys. We did our best to make this happen considering we only had 2 months and 1 week to make this happen. Lol, we didnt even have a location, speakers, sponsors or vendor when Jake Adams asked us for help. But I thought we managed to pull through. We will try to do better next time. We can learn from our mistakes and correct them later. Thats all we can do right? I have no regrets in donating my time to help out in this and if RMRC and SCMAS decides to join forces and have a much bigger and better one in the future, you can prolly expect me and a big part of SCMAS to be there again and help out. Anyways, to all who came and attended, thank you so much for coming.

Who wanted to wait around till the end I seen everything in 15 minutes. Had to leave to go get some lunch!!!

Was really hoping to have the ability to buy some of the stuff from reef nutrition as I really wanted to try those tiger pods. Was also hoping for a larger variety of dry goods...well what I was reallly looking for was a nice selection of t5 bulbs. But overall it wasn't bad I hope next time we can run a few more tanks as it was way too crowded.

we will have 3 next year, and we will let reef nutrition know that people want to buy their stuff. I don't know if they sell direct, but I am sure we can get a local sponsor to bring some to sell.

I just started my 12 gallon AP and this event was really helpful for me. I bought 8 different corals ranging from zoa's to a brain and a hammer. I also upgraded my lights from the pc's i had to metal halides. For all of you dissing this event it was amazing for me. I felt like it was christmas! I would've liked it if there was a way to sell livestock. The tank setup for vendors was a little tight but I've seen worse. Overall I had a great time. I know that my boyfriend (who got me started on all this) loves the corals that he bought too. Can't wait for next years!

Actually you guys I thought it was great. It was cool to meet some people, see some stuff and kill an afternoon with a bunch of folks who dig a lot of the same stuff I do. I was amazed to see so many people and I was appreciative for an event where I could see old friends and make new ones.

Frankly, I see the criticism as just that, constructive criticism. It will get better as there is obviously support from the community for another one next year that I'm sure will be bigger and better. So what, I didn't get a sandwich either..BFD the event was only 10 bucks and worth every penny. I know you will see ME there next year (as well as I'm sure some of the other folks who offered their 'constructive criticism'.)

And the folks who worked really hard to pull it together.........
THANK YOU!
