thanks mc i dont think i am going to go with convict maybe the Tomini. THE SALT IS THERE NOW!!!! TOOK LONG ENOUGH!!!! NOW ITS TIME FOR THE LIGHT.

OK i guess the Next topic is Light Sand and Rock. Couple questions for you guys and girls. How do you think i should put my rock i did say it before but i am open to other ideas. But i want a lot of crevices so the fish and the tangs can swim through them. At first i was thinking something like two islands and then a little space in the middle but iam not sure how that would like what do you guys think

I'm a fan of the "two islands with a space in the middle" idea. This has always been one of personal favorites. :eek2: Two islands can go a long way.

get your live rock home from the LFS, put it in the tank and start aquascaping. It will depend on the size and shapes of the pieces you get. If you feel up to it, you can drill holes in the rocks and stack them together over clear acrylic rods, 1/2" PVC etc..
the two islands approach is a common form found in many tanks and I'm sure you can create it in yours. Again, depending on shapes and sizes, you may be able to form arches, caves etc..

the only sure way to know is to get your hands in the tank. (Oh, and watch out for water spillage once you add the rock. It does tend to displace a lot of water. In your case, it will be in the basement, while you are upstairs.

Um... exactly how many tangs are you cramming into this 90g? ;)

Ok yea i think i will definitely go with two islands and then see how it looks. ill be going to work with my dad over the weekend and Monday probably done have school. Also its snowing here so i definitely cant go tomorrow. As for the tangs only 2 and maybe not even two didn't make my decision yet but i am leaning towards the 2 tangs

A little bit ago i called a couple LFS around and i asked can i put my rock and sand in for a little without my light and they said sure. I was not listening to your thoughts i just wanted some other opinions. i will probably move some of my rock out of my old tank and put it in and that also with the sand

Just remember - the folks on RC have no ulterior motives. The folks at the fish store might give you advice that will keep you coming back. Just something to think about.

yea i know just wanted to see if they agreed or disagreed. One question if they call it live sand then whats in it thats live and dosent have to have light to grow and stay healthy

One other question what do you guys think of the light i posted earlier because i will try to order it this week if you guys think its ok. I would love to do that this weekend

Most of what makes up "live sand" is good bacteria that is non-photosynthetic. That means it DOES NOT require light to stay alive. Honestly, though, you'd be better off buying ONE bag of live sand and the rest aragonite sand. That way, the bag of live sand seeds the rest and you don't pay more than you need to.

I have to 20LB bags of CaribSea Live aragonite sand do u think that will be good enough for like a 1 in sand bed

If your tank is 48x18 you will need about 40-45lbs for a 1" sand bed.

He should be good to go then, seeing as he has to 20 lb bags.

Lets see some pictures of the tank before and after sand installation, okay RT6?

Pictures make things interesting!

Lmao, sorry. I will have to put my low-level English glasses on.

Get this thing setup before someone steals it and sets it up for you!

so you say your going to build islands? do you have a mental piture of what they will look like? are they 2 mounds of rock, or 2 pillars of rock? do they breach the suface? im curious to know.

ok guys wasn't home yesterday sorry i didn't get to your replay's. As for the rock and sand i think i will be doing that later today and i will post some pics of the tank before and then after and during the process. As for the rock i do have a picture in my head there will only be a little space in the middle but enough for the fish to swim through and i will try to do some crevices and other things and i think its going to like good. But if i doesn't turn out that well then ill go with the regular way i put my rock going across the whole tank.

well whats your plan of action going to be? how exactly do you plan on achieving the island look? did you plan on just stacking rocks, and hoping they fit together in a way that forms a sturdy island, or do you have capabilities to do as rumlad suggested, and drill the rocks to accept a piece of acrylic rod, or small diameter pvc pipe?
if the option of drilling the rock is available to you, you should consider it.
