I used a Mag 2 to feed the reactor. I had to run to HD to get two fittings to connect it to the blue hose though.

I am running about 60 bubbles per minute and about 70 drips per min.


here is the wierd thing, the ephluent (sp?) PH is 7.5 the reactor is outputting 490 CA and 17.3 DKH

my tank was at 400 ca and 8 dkh earlier today

How old are the test kits, and are you using a ph monitor or test kits for the effluent?

OK, test kits are not too old (unless they sat on a shelp for 2 years before purchase).

Ph probe calibrated? - test in calibration fluid to find out.
*Reading* the test results correctly ? - e.g. bottom vs top of plunger gasket.
If you are a male, are you, or any of your male extended family e.g. father, brothers, grandparents, uncles, etc colorblind? Don't laugh it occurs more often than you think. *Usually* in males but also (very infrequently) in females.

Hey all, I finally got my reactor set up this past weekend. Everything seems to be going ok except getting the flow rate to stay put. My bubble count is at 35 or so, trying to keep my flow at 20cc per minute. I set it to 20cc per minute and the following day it's back to 5-8, I reset it and next day same thing, anyone else have this? I've been using some channel locks to move the lever, seems to work pretty well but doesn't stay there.

I to hooked up my reactor this weekend . My flow valve is also a pain to adjust and still is a work in progress.I'm restricting the flow at the end of the output tube to about 20 ml. per minute.The bubble count is about 40 per minute and PH controller reading has been decreasing to about 6.9 at last check tonight.:)

I want to express my thanks to all the people that have posted ideas and helpful guidance in the CA groups undertaking and Thanks for all of Rebels23 Hardwork and countless hours of organizing this very big step in Reefkeeping !!!

I too am having a horrible time keeping my effluent rate constant. That gets to be really bad, especially when you are trying to calibrate the reactor. I think it's just the Ball Valve that is used on the reactor. I have heard (and I guess have also now experienced) that these are very inefficient at keeping a stable effluent rate.

FWIW Jorge now offers a Needle Valve upgrade for $12 + $4 shipping. These might now be standard on all the new reactors, I don't know. It would make sense. But for those of you that allready have a ReefTek with a Ball Valve, I figured I would let you know that the upgrade is available. I'm tired of messing with that finicky ball valve, so I'm getting one. I'll update when I recieve it.
 
Ok, I just got my new valve from Jorge. Does anyone have any idea how to take out the old John Guest fitting and add this new valve on the reactor??? Thx

The flow rate is much easier to adjust now! It is not a super duper high precision needle valve, but it does the job. It is sensitive enough that I can get a constant drip rate out of it, where as the old JG fitting would drip, then stream, drip, than stream.
 
I just re-read my post, and wanted to say I did not mean to make it sound like the new valve was a "so so valve". This is not the case at all. It is actually really good as I have been able to set any rate I want with it. For some weird reason I was thinking of those really expensive needle valves for CO2 tanks when writing that. Sorry for the confusion. :)
 
the new valve is just great. I would highly suggest anyone with the old valve to replace it, well worth the 16$ or whatever it is. Its also great to see that jorge is listening to the consumers and what they want.
 
What is your effluent values on your RT reactor...How many Ml's per minute (more accurate then drops per minute) and BPM...and what KH and calcium levels is your effluent at?

Oimate84 - My effluent at the moment is coming out at 7.05 PH and I am dripping about 19 ml a minute with about 18 - 20 BPM. The effluent is coming out at 410 Ca and 18 DKH. Will be bumping this up soon.


What kind of options did everyone use for their input line? Did everyone use the maxijet 1200 as recommended or has anyone run a JG off of their return line? Has anyone tinkered with mixing Koralith with ARM?

*j-cat* - I actually tee'ed off my return pump, which is a Mag 7 to feed my reactor. I can take a pic of it and post it.
