TTM in 5 gallon buckets is so super simple, its probably the only reason I didn't mind buying the new one with ich already. In the 2 times I've done it now(this makes 3), I never have seen any ammonia problems. I don't think their in the bucket long enough to have a problem, although I've read of people that do.
The only thing I do different in TTM then in my QT or DT, I buy super cheap salt (pet smart has top fin, 10$ makes 50 gallons) instead of using the expensive reef crystals(30$ for 50 gallons). I figure the cheap stuff is OK for just fish, and seems like a huge waste of expensive salt dumping out 20 gallons during the entire process.
