Refugium Advice

I am planning on putting a 10gallon refugium in on my 90 gallon system. I have planned on redirecting my main pipe straight through the refugium which will gravity feed into the sump. Will this be too much flow? I know alot of people T off the main pipe and direct some flow to the sump and some to their refugium at the same time.

I want cheato to grow in the sump and for now that is all I am going to put in there. I think I am just going to leave it glass bottom so I can keep it clean. The whole objective here is to bring my nitrates down and to get them stable. I may add a deep sand bed later.

I am fitting the refugium in my cabinet under my tank or I would be going with a larger refugium. Will the 10 gallon still be worth the trouble in effectiveness?

thanks for the help

IMO a 10 gal sump/fuge isn't big enough for a 90g tank. I'd probably want at least a 50g sump/fuge for a 90g tank. Leaves a lot more room for error.

I would look into say a 30g+ tank for your sump.

You could make different chambers, one for a fuge with your cheato, one for your skimmer, and one for your return pump. 10g sump in a 90g system sounds low to me, though it could still be benefitial.

You have to remember.. Though you say 10g sump/fuge.. you're actually only using approximately 50-75% of the volume.

It's not the best Idea to use your Protein Skimmer after the fuge do to the fact that it will turn your pods into hamburger and float them out with the skimmate. It's best to either split the drain line or skim first and use the skimmed water thru the fuge.

Didn't mean in that order but I can see how easily that is to assume it. WOOPS! :eek2:

Split or skim first yup.

i have a seperate sump that is a 20 gallon. I am just adding on a 10 gallon refugium.

I am setting up a 10 gal fuge and 20 gal sump for my 30 gal display tank. The bigger the better. I would use what ever size you can fit in your stand lol.
