refugium in wet dry?

Not sure what the pro clear 300 looks like, but, use the larger partition for the refugium and the smaller for your sump/return. Hard to tell you without a pict.

Sorry,

from the looks of the pic. take out the bio balls, throw them in the trash can and make your refugium by sealing the holes under the balls. drill a hole in the acrylic to adjust the water level of the compartment, could even be done with a bulkhead and a short piece of pvc in an overflow style??

You will benefit much more from a refugium than bio-balls

I also have been thinking about modifying my wet dry? I have a Reef Surge with rotating spray bars. Just need some brilliant ideas! I have been waiting to get rid of those dam bio balls! I have a pic or 2 in my gallery, im sure if we all put our minds to it we can make a great mod!

I have the same Wet/Dry and have been trying to think of the best way to convert it. I'll be interested in reading other peoples ideas.

Thats what I was thinking. remove all of that stuff and get some plexi-glass to make a few baffles to maintain a higher water level.

As a suggestion if you have the room - I converted my wet/dry to a pure sump and am using a cheap rubbermaid type container from Walmart as my fuge (which sits right next to the sump. The tank drains to a "T" with 2/3 of the water going to the sump and 1/3 to the fuge. I drilled holes near the top on the side of the "fuge" that is next to the sump and using PVC and o-rings it overflows into the sump.

The "2/3rd" water from the tank goes into the first section of the sump (former wet dry) which has mechanical filtration (poly filter, carbon, etc.) up high with live rock on the bottom. Water then flows into the second compartment where the skimmer sits and where the fuge overflow water comes. This way the skimmer is still getting some tank water that has not been through the poly filter, carbon, etc. I have a piece of plexiglass separating this second compartment into two small compartments. The return pump to the tank (Mag 7) is in the second part of this compartment.

This set up provides protection in case of a power failure and has proven to work good. And best of all it was very inexpensive.

In Anthony's skimmer thread it explains how important that the skimmer get the raw unfiltered water in the first compartment. I used some of his techniques and the difference was amazing.
