What's a good light to use?

I was thinking of a red/blue led bulb but there are so many out there i wasn't sure what to try out first.

Any recommendations?

Also what wattage should i be looking for?

Ebay or amazon links are preferred.

I use a clip on fixture from home depot with a 23W flourescent bulb. Cost about $15 and chaeto grows like crazy.

Aren't thise the ones that were catching on fire? I remember that from a little while back

Ugh! I hope not. I just bought one. Maybe I should return it.

I tried to find the original thread that had that link, but couldn't find it.

I have been using a JBJ Nano Glo LED light for the cheato-box that I have in my sump. The chaeto has been growing well, and the the light uses a magnet to hang on the side of the glass so I don't have to worry about light bleeding into the rest of the sump.

Don't do that based on what I said as I'm not 100% sure. It just rings a bell, the whole cheap led floodlight thing

I use REEF RADIANCE DM-5e 5 Watt REFUGIUM PAR 30 LED LIGHT. Works pretty good. Cost me $30 with the mounting clamp.

I've got 6 of them on my fuge going for a few years now and they are just fine. I think the ones that caught fire were the Chinese black box full spectrum LED's. I remember reading something about that but never these. I'll make sure to keep some marshmellows close by just in case!.

I have a small strip light that came with the aga tank gallon tank setup. It's a 18" t8 flourescent. Is this fine?

I have tried par 38 bulbs and 6500k bulbs and have gotten better results with the 6500k. Another tip I can offer is to not only light the fuge from the top, but install a second light on the side if possible. The chaeto will explode with growth.

Par 38 does a good enough job unless you want to be selling it or trimming it all the time.

Unless you have a really large refugium!

On the other hand, the more you have to trim, the more nutrients you are removing.

I use a 180 hydroponic fixture

My fuge is around 20 gallons and I pull a 5 gallon bucket full of chaeto every month. I do have a 300 gallon tank tho with 6 fat tangs and a couple dozen other fish.

I've actually looked into this bulb and was thinking of trying it.

Do you have a link to the mounting clamp you use?

I've tried out 65k cfl bulbs on my moms tank and it never got good growth at all. That is why i am leaning more towards the red/blue par 30/38 bulbs.
