I switched several months back from 2700K to 5200K bulb. Seem my cheato hasn't grown at all, thinking about switching back to 2700 where I got good growth.

What type of fixtures or bulbs other fmas members using.?

I use 2 6500k spot lights I grabbed a t lightbulbs unlimited and mine grows like crazy. I think they are 17w and cost around 12$ each. and the fixtures were for outdoors spot lights at Target got 4$ each or something like that.

Not to steal your thread...but how offten do others change their bulbs when they are running them 24/7? Every 6 months like PCs??

The more light you put in the faster the growth.When we switch customers to T5s the growth on the plants triple.I also did a tank in New Jersey where we used a 250 watt halide and the growth is unbelievable.I've seen members use VHO with good growth as well.If I where you I would get the most powerful light you can afford.The Lights of America 65 watt fixtures work really well but not as good as a 96 watt quad.I've seen many set ups with a 27 watt bulb but the growth has been lack luster.If your using chaeto you have to remember that most of it is in Florida bay in less then 5 feet of water so its use to intense radiation.It will still grow on lower light but like a good skimmer and a poor skimmer there is a huge difference in performance.Lots of people have thought there plants werent growing fast cause there tanks where nutrient poor but where amazed what a bump in light did to the growth rates.

So I guess that my 9 watt PC light just does not cut it. I guess thats why my cheto does not grow.

I change mine every 6 months...bret did you order your 6500 or get them around town.?

brian...I got them at Light Bulbs unlimited on Oakland...I think they were 15$ each but I told them what I was using it for so they gave me the "designer" discount!

I am using one from the Light Bulbs Unlimited in Miami with good results at low cost - Energy Wiser 25W 6500K

Multiple ways to skin a cat. Mine was easy , 40 gallon sump/fuge and got the fixture took the actinic out and 18 watts total.

wow i went all over broward county this past weekend trying to find a light for my fuge at a reasonable price let me know if these lights work for you

I've been using it since Sept and it has grown my cheato like crazy. I just went with a DSB, some LR rubble and cheato and 2 of these spot lights and it works great for me...for around 30$

No idea what it said on the box! This was back in Sept that I got them. I am due to get them again soon...prolly in the next week or 2. I just asked for 5500k floods and they showed me the 6500k they had! I think mine are 19 or 17W. After 6 months of 24/7 one has gotten dimmer then the other so they are due to be changed!
