Refugiums and Fry

I have a question. When breeding clownfish, can the fry be placed in the refugium of the system? The refugium obviously will overflow into the return to the maintanks so it shouldn't pull them into the return area. I was wondering if the fry would eat things such as copepods and amphipods. If no one has done this I might try it with my system. I am going to design a custom 30 gallon refugium for my breeding system. I may try to raise a batch of fry in my refugium with supplemented rotifers if they start dying off.

I wouldn't recommend it as you would have to black out your fuge (thus likely killing any algaes you have in it) as well as cutting it off from the tank completely as your kids will get sucked out and the amount of food you will have to provide could potentially pollute your tank. The food density needs to be high as the kids need to store as much energy for metamorphsis rather than expending it to try to get food. Given this high density, it would have to be maintained in the entire water column as it would be extremely difficult to isolate it to just the fuge. Also, it would be likely that any critters in your fuge could see your kids as a potential food source.

Best suggestion would be to keep them as separate as possible. Dedicated equipment has been much more successful in my opinion but sadly more expensive as well.
