Hi,

Am looking to start adding smooth skinned to my acro collection. Placements available are lower on the bottom of the tank and on the sides receiving around 200-250 PAR from my dual radium 250 watts .
Tank is 30 in x 30 in x 18 in deep.
Want to know your favorite smooth skinned ones and what PAR do you keep them ?

Regards,
Abhishek

Purple Monster. Hawkins. Any of the dragons. I keep the PM at 400+. I like the whiteish tips and growth from the higher light of the dragons and hawkins at 300+ but the do color better lower.

Just bought a Hawkins 2 weeks back . Mostly browned but hopefully will color up as the tips are bluish green with white tips .
Currently placed around 300 PAR .

So if I ever get to source a purple monster and a pink panther ,
Will they be ok in lower light of 250 ? Wonder if they will brown out

Abhishek

No, they both like more light 350-450. For most tanks that's at least mid-level. Pink Panther won't pop and will be a drab pink................PM will brown out or won't have that purple velvety sheen look. On top of that, the growth will be very slow for both.

turaki, echinata, specosia, caroliniana, suaharsoni, ect. will all give deeper/vivid colors at the lower par levels and grow well. This doen't mean you can put them in a shaded area.........they still need direct light, they just don't require the higher par levels.

It all depends on the look you want as well........some people like the more pastel type look..........some corals will adapt to levels higher as well.

PM and PP can be great under radiums but need to be higher. I would make room for them and get some. They are great corals that you can trade for high end stuff at nearly any time.

Look for a nice Ice Fire or 30K Lokani. They get really nice blue at lower depths. There are good ice fire frags, and bad ones (less blue with less contrast) - I would pay a bit more for a really good one. Your typical red dragon, mr/ms pacman are great choices too.
