Regal Angel Primer

So at what point do you consider that you are over the hump with regals and become confident that they are going to make it? With most I normally consider one month to be the millstone. I'm at about 5 weeks and my regal is still doing great. Its eating everything that I feed and is constantly out and about.

Hey Mike , did we get the fish from the same guy ? I think so
I think close to a year and your over the hump as it does take the shy Angles time to become bold and swim in and out of the pack at will at least from the Majsetic I had from a juvi. It would swim in and out of the rock work close to the bottom and more in the back of the tank . I had him over a year he changed to adult color and I broke down the tank and sold all my fish . The Regal does remind me of the Majestic I had in the past .

Hey Pete yes we traded PMs about a month ago and we did get them from the same person. How is yours doing? My isn't showing any shyness at all.

Hi Mike , mine is ok only eats the pellets and mysis I have alot of Tangs so its not the ideal situation for him but he goes where he wants with some caution as some fish are twice his size if I see a drop off in feeding I will pull out the fish trap and thin out the herd

I just picked up a very small regal. Its about the size of a small/medium chromis, 1 inch at the biggest. He's in a 75 gallon qt tank at the moment and I think I should get it eating before any treatment. The QT is established so theres a lot of life on the rocks. He seems to be picking at stuff constantly and looks very healthy at the moment. I haven't seen him eat any prepared foods yet. Any suggestions for a regal this small?

Try chopping your mysis up with a knife to make it a little smaller. You can also smear some frozen foods into a crevice in a small piece of rock and freeze it. Doesnt last a long time but sometimes easier to get them to try it if they feel like theyre grazing.

I just added a juvi to my established pair, bit of aggression from the existing female will try get a group shot of them, but seems whenever i get the camera out they seperate

thanks for the advice. I really hope I can get him to eat. I'll be trying hatched brine in the morning and various foods throughout the day, including clams.

aquaph8- that is a great idea and I'll definitely try that, thank you

albano- Yes, I would say about that size. Smallest regal I've seen in person.

I would add a small fish that eats. When I picked mine up the guy had it with a small fish that would eat pellets , I think it will teach them to eat it cant hurt to try

phk36- thank you. That's exactly what I did. I put him in with a small chromis.

I still haven't seen him eat anything I've put in the tank, but I've been feeding and then leaving the room so I don't make him nervous.

Should I get a Regal? My tank has been fallow for 10 weeks and is loaded with pods and other life. I plan on adding a leopard wrasse this Thursday into the tank and thought it would be a great time to add a regal since they are hard to get adjusted as well. I will leave my other fish out for another week or two to let the leopard adjust.

You sir are correct. I haven't seen your success stories on a leopard wrasse but 90% of the ones I have seen and talked to say the best bet is to roll the dice and go straight into the tank with the LW. I have tried to QT them before and they just do not make it.

Also I have read through this thread and many have also taken the chance. With an angel, it will
Most likely be flukes if It back fires. My only reason for thinking it would be a good time to add a Regal is because they too have a hard time adjusting and eating. There is an abundance of live food for both of them and they will have no competition.

All of my fish and coral have been QTd except for two fish that my friend has had for 3 years- those two hid it well when I said I would baby sit while he moved.
