Regal Angel Primer

That seems pretty small for 4 regals.

I've tried twice to do 2 in a 240g and failed both times. I remain with the single one.

What happened when you added the two? Did you add them at the same time? How big were they?

I hope to restock my 225 and would love to have two, but if others before me have failed I will not do that.

Thanks for any info!

The couple times I've tried it's been adding a second to an established one. My established one has a TINY gill spine, leading me to believe it is a she, hoping making pairing easier. Nope.

after waiting 3 days in a breeder box and watching interaction between my male regal i decided to release the 4th regal. The established 3 showed no sign of aggression however the purple tang (only tang in tank) was relentless attacking the new addition.

I caught the regal and put back into box and will give to a friend as i cant see the aggression lessening. The tang even started attacking the box.

I have my red sea regal with a bandit and a trio of bellus angels. They all get along swell! I originally had a male swallowtail angel that harassed the regal. The regal wouldn't eat because of the bullying. This went on for 2 months before I decided to get rid of the swallowtail. That very day, the regal came out and ate clams on the half shell. Within a week, he was eating frozen mysis. A month later, he's chowing down on pellets. The regal has been in my tank for 7 months now and has put on serious weight.

Interesting. I'm new to keeping multiples in the same tank, but I notice many people do it. Do you have any issues with 3 in a tank that size? Do you use an acclimation box upon introduction?

sorry i missed this, i introduced 2 at the same time, one was male other female.
I then added a juvi several months later and used a acclimation box for 3 days before releasing the fish. The female showed some interest in the juvi initially but nothing too aggressive. Now there is very little aggresison, occassionally the male with have a nip at the female, then the female with nip the juvi showing the pecking order/heirachy of the pack.

I rescued this Regal from my LFS. It needed a lot of work while it was in QT, but I finally got it healthy. I apologize in adcvance for picture quality, they were taken on I-phone under mid-day led setting.

Jnc that's a neat looking regal, is it just the picture or is it actually that yellow?

It is an extremely yellow Regal, but I think the combo of LED lighting & I-phone lend to some of the color saturation. I had the LEDs set on mid-day during the pics.

Ami- Thanks. Good luck with your Regal.

When I saw the Regal at my LFS, it was in bad shape and had an infestation of fluke, especially on its eyes. Between frequent FW dips and Erythromycin, the fish was able to get its strength back. I only added Prazi after it began to have a strong feeding response. I have it now for roughly 5 months and it gets along with all the other angels in the tank. It also eats anything thrown in the tank, but takes huge chunks of Larry's Fish Frenzy.
