Good morning guys. My regal was out and about this morning, and picking at some rocks, still didnt eat the meaty foods. One of the rocks he was picking at had a nice yellow sponge on it.

I think you are going to be just fine.

Brad,
What do you recommend feeding him?? I would love to get my regal on pellets, and meaty foods asap.... I have formula 1 and 2 pellets, small size... Should I try the medium size Formula2??

Today he was out and about much more of the day... He is very curious, and getting along with everyone... Loves picking at the live rock.... I have tried to get foods to him, but he isn't much interested yet.... He was very social today, on day 3....

The Nori will be a tough one, I have a Tang and Foxface that glom my nori clip in like 1 minute flat... :)

I really think mine learned to eat prepared foods by watching my other fish gobble it down. He first tried some of the formula 2 flakes and from then on, he was eating mysis and brine frozen cubes. He really loves the medium sized spectrum pellets. He fights for those. Just try what your other fish really love and eventually he will start eating. He already feels at ease in your tank, it wont be long before he feels comfortable eating.

I picked up a regal from a friend that only ate nori with him but I got it to eat spectrum in no time at all. My regal gets along real well with a potter's and golden pygmy angels.

My Regal from Live Aquaria is doing the exact same thing. I've had him since late last week and he is just picking at the rocks. He's very curious and is out and about all the time. Hopefully he'll get the urge to start eating prepared foods soon. He was advertised as eating frozen mysis very well. He did spend 48hrs in shipment and I think that is what has caused him to go on a hunger strike....hoping time will allow him to settle in and get hungry.

I dropped a few frozen clams on the half shell this morning.... the regal went for it.... He went down and ate one of them... My Halequin ate it quick, and not sure if there was any meat left for him, but he swam down to he shell and picked at it... I think my boy is hungry... He is also picking at tons of rock today.....

Sorry for so many posts. I think I saw a good sign this morning. He has been in tank for 4 days now. I saw him poop. Would that mean he ate something? Or could that be a weeks worth? :)

Don't think its a weeks worth, but it is a sign that it has eaten something within the past couple of days. And it is a good sign overall. Keep feeding clams in the half shell and he should be fine. Other than the clams, is he still not attempting to even taste other meaty foods yet?

None of my prepared frozen stuff. But he does pick all day. I have live yellow sponge all over my rock, which I have seen him eat.

Picked this guys up this weekend, he eats like a pig and is already the king of my FOWLR.

sorry for how big the pic is. Didn't have time for resize.

Guys,
Seems like my regal loves clams on the half shell.. Do I ever have a chance of him eating from the water column??

What kind of clams did you get? Regular steamers?

Its called clams on the half shell by h2o life. I bought it at my lfs. Should I bit bigger ones? These are maybe 3/4 of am inch in size.

My regal started out only eating nori and clams on the halfshell, but later on started nibbling on mysis and brine shrimp. IMHO clams are a good trainer food for regals. In time I am sure the fish will start to eat from the water column.

I can't seem to get him to eat Nori, but he is tearing up clams today.... As well as picking around the tank... he is now all over the tank, and swimming openly. Know one in the tank intimidates him one bit...

Well, I thing my Regal likes zoos... I had a nice patch of red zombie Eyed zoos on a rock, where he has been picking around. I came home today, and poof... Gone :( Hopefully this is all he eats... I don't have many zoos around the tank... I have a big colony in the center if my tank... he hasn't touched those yet..

He is still attacking the clams on the half shell.... Still no water column food :( Have had him 12 days now... Looks to be in good health... Doesn't hide at all anymore...I can see him prolly 90 Percent of the time now....

Sounds like your Regal is on his way but it could take some time. My current Regal took 4 months before he ate out of the water column. I was writing him off at one point but sure enough he eventually caught on. He started off slowly but now he's even eating flake food. You just have to be patient and keep sustaining him on whatever he'll take until he makes the transistion. Keep us updated.

I found a new food my regal likes... My LFS carries it. It called ProV. It looks like a nugget of green veggies... At first I tried it and it floated around the top. This morning a threw a cube of it into my meaty food mix, and it melted it down slightly... It sank right to the bottom and the angel attacked it.... That was about 5 minutes. Since then, he picks at it every few minutes, then swims away, kinda like he is grazing.... I am sooooo happy... Found 2 things he likes..... No I have some green in his diet.... These veggie things remind me of dots candy in shape :)

So clam and and now this....

Sad times for me: After 2+ years, I finally had to remove my RS Regal because it suddenly began to nip at my Favia, my Chalices, and my Acans. Constantly. I found this particularly odd as it never expressed any interest in them before but I guess once it tried 'em, it was hooked on 'em. On the positive side, it WILL be going to a good home, one with very few LPS so hopefully, the acclimation process will be minimal. After all, it IS already eating.
