Regal Angel Primer

Agree with the above! I ordered a Red Sea Regal almost a year ago, and what arrived was an Indo variant (I guess...its a grey-bellied Regal, anyway). The store refunded the difference, but the fish has been fantastic. First, I had an established Blue face, who didn't care for the addition, and would chase him around. So he had reason to be somewhat stressed...but the Regal just swam away, never really hid, and within a week was eating voraciously out of the water column. He and the Blueface mostly ignore each other now. I guess mine is not a typical case, but I couldn't ask for a better Regal.

My Indo which I bought from friend has been doing well in captivity for over 2yrs. My buddy couldn't get it to eat anything but nori but I fixed that in about a week's time as I only feed my fish spectrum pellets.

My Indo has been doing great for eight months now. Eats nearly anything now....including flakes. I agree having them in a reef enviroment makes a great difference.

I have had my Red Sea now for about 2.5 months. Still can't get him to ear frozen cube foods. He eats clams on the half she'll and veggie bites.

I passed on the Indo. I'm holding out for a RS one. I'm curious as to who has purched one sight unseen online? And of those how many were successful. I've never considered getting one online but am considering going that route.

I've had mine for almost 8 months now and still doing great.

Provided you have no tank disasters your Regal should live many more years. I had my RS Regal for over 5 years. Best wishes for continued success.

2 big regals

2 big regals

Well i ordered (2)5" RS regals from nyaquatic.com.

Here they are, i received them last thursday. Now both are eating spectrum pellets. They dont seem to enjoy formula 2 pellets all that much.

the first two pics are of Rocky. I named him that bc when i received him all the water leaked out of the bag and he didnt even have enough water to cover him when he was laying flat. I was pretty positive he wasnt going to make it past a day but he's been fighting the odds and now he's eating!!!! wish me luck. they are both in QT right now. split up bc the other regal kept picking on rocky.

 just might be. But he's so lovely...i couldn't stand to call him that.

thanks for the suggestion though.

John37- I get that you want two Regals for your tank, but it may not have been a great idea getting two that are identical is size. I think this will be in an issue even in your 200 gal. You already got a taste of the agression between them. Good luck with them and I hope it works out. Very nice specimens BTW.

jnc914, I just got in a 135 for the 2 smaller ones and plan on getting another one for the larger regal. i am hoping to have the two smaller one's and one of the larger one's in one tank and another 135 for the other larger regal. I ordered two b/c if i can't keep both i can always sell one. I didnt want to pay shipping for one fish as well. I also bought two kind of for insurance purposes, in case one didnt make it. I think i just got lucky though.

that's rough to hear, a loss is never taken lightly in our household the kids get pretty atached. how long did you have it? Indo or RS? What was it eating? Any other info you can offer up?Not that it makes any easier but hopefully your experiences can help others with success.

Here's our 2.5" Red Sea Juvi we picked up on Wed night.

He's already eating out of the water column; enriched brine, mysis pieces, and shaved Sponge & Spirulina based frozen blocks.

Won't touch the Nori we have rubberbanded to the rocks. We have an algae "garden" on the other side of the tank with different micro & macro algae he will graze on.

wow, that juvi looks great. Gluck w/it. i've yet to see a juvi in person. the smallest one i've seen was around 2.5" but adult colors.

I have been reading this thread for quite sometime and I am now thinking about getting a Regal and my lfs never gets them in, so should I order one off of LiveAquaria? Should I wait until one pops up in the divers den to make sure it is a healthy and active one that would show all the good signs?

are you planning on adding it to your sps tank? do you have clams, lps, zoos? divers den is cool bc they have the 14day guarantee.
