Regal Angel Primer

thanks i have always wanted to add one to my tank but never came across a nice one that was eating well in the my LFS...when i saw this one i jumped on the chance!! I added it yesterday and it has already taken frozen mysis, cyclops, and even some flake food! This morning i saw it grazing on the rocks and nipping at some pesky macro in the display tank.

Mine has just past the three year mark. I figure it has settled in by now. It appears to have even stopped squabbling with the Clark’s Clown.

Steve

craiglanda, beautiful regal!!! I want one like that, how big is he?

Steve Atkins......................

OMG, is your avatar a picture of a kitten passed out in its food?

Here is mine after 4-5 months:

i'm not from the beginning of the thread but i've had my first one since feb of '06. Still doing very well still pretty small, grown less than an inch i'd say. making her about 3.5".

since then i've gotten 3 more regals. 2-5" lrg regals and another one that's a little smaller than her. they've all been moved to a 135 and have been there for about 2 weeks now.

I am so jealous, for a about two year now I've been searching for a redsea and not one has ever shown in my LFS's or even surrounding areas. Don't know why but these angels are so scarce up in Canada. Meanwhile I hear the US reefers are buying them left and right. I wish to one day have a pair or more in my possession.

John,
How does your multiple Regals get along? Were they eating when you got them? I would like to know more about the group social interaction.
Thanks.

They're getting along fine. dont seem to bother each other but the larger ones are usually on opposite sides of the tank. The smaller one's get bullied if they get in the way of my imperator but not by the larger regals.

the one that i've had since 06 was eating mysis when i first got her and took a few weeks to eat pellets. the other small one was in captivity for 2yrs before i got her as well and so was eating everything when i got her.

the larger ones ate pellets the day of or a day after i got them. i would never buy one that's not eating anything prior.

All I can contribute to this thread is that when people say that you should have the fish fed at the LFS before buying it, what a true statement that is. I have now had my Red Sea Regal (approx 4 inches) for about a month and he's eating anything I feed including pellets. At LFS, the day I got this regal, they had a total of four (1 indo and 3 Red Sea) all about the same size. I had them feed all four of the fish and the one I bought was the only one that ate pellets in front of me so I got him. Sure enough, within the month that I've had mine doing great in my tank, the other 3 have died at the LFS. Glad I learned that trick here on the forum. Will try to post up pics soon.

Just a few pics for the new page.

"does anyone from teh begining of the thread want to update on how their fish is doing?"

I have had this one since March 2006. Still doing great, very fat & healthy, I would say close to double in size now. LOVES the small size Formula Two Marine Pellets. Has always eaten very well since day 1. Does not mess with any of my corals (mixture of both SPS & LPS) but I did lose that clam in the pic about a year ago. I didn't see him messing with the clam, but who knows.......

nope....there's actually four and they're all still doing well. no pictures though. The tank is too ugly to post online. Only reason that tank is up is for my fish...i just couldnt get myself to part w/them.

i posted these pics in a different regal thread, but there are more regal junkies here :)

a little eye candy for those who haven't seen a juvie regal:

fist shot - normal baby regal (1.5" long)

2nd - about an inch (maybe less) juvie with missing bars. Very rare!

both from the marshall islands, and both eating greedily :)

After seeing so many beautiful pictures of Regals and I finally managed to rearrange the tank that I feel cofident enough no one will stress the Regal out upon intro I got one. It's labeled as Sumatra Regal.

Hope some of you can give me a quick lesson here of all the different names (locale) they go by: Solomon Island, Indo, Red Sea, Pacific, Indian Ocean, Sumatra. Is Sumatra same as Indo? And Yellow belly same as Red Sea? Thanks!

Here's mine

Here's a pic of my new Red Sea Regal. I've wanted this fish for a very long time. It's already eating spectrum pellets & picking on the LR.Best of all it was only $70.00.
