New life spectrum. I forgot to add drop some garlic guard from sea chem on the roll after its rubber banded let sit for give min then put in tank

One more...these clam strips you're referring to... Where do you buy them? You mentioned about some pictures you may have?

Trying to post pics , Clam strip from grocery or frozen fish food I think ..ocean nutrition has them. But store fresh sea food is good too

Need some feedback from those with pairs of Regals...

After attempting the Regal Angel, and ultimately failing for one reason or another for the last 6 years, I have finally received 2 healthy and EATING regal angels. The first is a
4.25" Indo Blue Belly Regal that was obtained from Bluezoo Aquatics as I had store credit to use. The second I acquired as a complete fluke for an excellent price. I have a friend that owns an LFS and I had mentioned months ago I had been looking for a Regal. I got a call last week that the LFS received 2 true Red Sea Regals. I picked up a 5" yellow belly last week. Both are going through extensive QT in a 55 gallon tank separated by egg crate.

I made my first attempt to introduce the two Regals on Sunday, and needless to say it didn't go well. It started as tail swatting, and ended with the larger Regal shredding the dorsal fin of the Indo regal. I had to literally put my hand in and physically separate the two angels. The Indo's fins appear a bit better 2 days later and he is still eating like a pig. I have paired many angels in the past with great success (Bandit, Blueline, Goldflake, etc), but these two may prove to be a challenge. I had planned on adding them to my 180 gallon FOWLR. They would be the largest fish in the tank.

So my plan is to not introduce them together. Instead I am looking at adding the smaller of the two first so that it can stake claim on some territory and get comfortable. I will then add the larger a week or so later and see how the introduction goes. I have set my display up to where I can easily move certain rocks and can place egg crate in if needed. I was also going to to the mirror method for two weeks and see if that will alleviate some aggression.

Sound good, or is there a better method or process? Thanks in advance for any input provided.

Since the subject has come up about pairing I will insert my story. I have a 5” Red Sea Regal (male) in my 300. I added a 2”+ juvenile red sea a couple months ago using a thin piece of plexi glass sectioning off 1/3 of the tank with holes large enough for most of my fish to pass through except the large regal and my copper band. The male hates the juvey and will go at him profusely. The juvenile stays on his side most of the day but several times a day he will cross over. When that happens and the larger notices it the chase is on. And although so easy for the little one to retreat back though the holes, instead it takes refuge into a honey hole to aggravate the larger one who can’t quit get his bigger head into. When the larger one decides to turn slightly the smaller one comes out and pecks on the larger before darting back in for safety. This goes on for a few minutes and then the little one swim’s back into its side of the tank. It is comical to watch except for it is tough watching a $300 fish getting its fins sliced sometimes. In this same tank I have my pair of Flame Angels that paired very similar except the smaller used my birds nest coral to hide in when the chase ensued. Before these two paired during feeding time the smaller one would come out of hiding grab a piece of food from the larger flames mouth and swim like heck back to the protection of the birds nest. I wish I would have documented how long it took for the aggression to stop but I did not. I am going to give it another month. I came home yesterday and the little one was on the wrong side but very little aggression, I fed and they ate together and after a few minutes the chase was on. I noticed the little ones tail was not as shredded, so maybe it is working out?

Alton- Thanks for sharing. I am hoping they can co-exist longterm, but some effort will be needed on my part. I checked their gill spines and the smaller Indo appears to be "male" as it has long gill spines; while the larger yellow belly may be a female due to its shorter, almost non-existant gill spines. Both are beautiful fish, but I really enjoy the color contrast of the Indo. If I have to sell one, I am leaning toward keeping the Indo, despite protests from my wife whom fell in love with the colors of the yellow belly :)

Chicago- I added the Indo to the main display on 4/10. It is eating with gusto, healthy, and very active. It got a a little trouble from a male Bellus, but that lasted about 10-15 minutes. I put the mirror on the front of the tank to further take away attention from the new comer. I have the larger Red Sea still in QT. I am going to give the Indo at least another month to settle and establish itself in the display before the larger regal is put in. I will post pics once both are in the display, I don't want to jinx myself ;)

Is my regal doomed to live in the fuge forever? She still only casually eats... and only NLS pellets.... and only FRESH NLS pellets... any that have sat in the tank for more than 10 minutes get spat out. She'll never compete in the 240 like this... :(

She will eat clam... the problem is that she is still not excited about it.... just eats it in passing, like any food.

That's a tough one Peter. Perhaps she'll eat more aggressively when she has too.
As you know, mine took almost 3 weeks before she started eating & was extremely casual about it even when she began. At 4 weeks now she is getting more aggressive about her eating everyday. But still much less than the other fish.

Mine took three weeks in display tank before aggressively gong after food. That's why I kept a sushi roll clam covered in some bird screening. And robber banded. To rock. Nipped at it all day.

I have one on hold at LFS, they assured me it was eating but it wouldn't while I was there. They said they would give me a call as soon as they can show its eating well, now this is my dilemma. Should I wait for this fish to eat or die at the store, or do I risk taking it home where I can take the time and effort to encourage it myself using tips from this thread? It's going into a 120, SPS dominate tank. Only other fish are 5 small green chromis (1"). Lots of live rock for it to at least graze on.

Thanks,

Francis

I should add, it's in a small tank ~30 gal at the LFS with several similar sized fish that are much more aggressive feeders. I'm leaning towards picking it up right away and risking the financial loss. I guess we all are at that risk everyday anyway.

it's about six months now since I have mine. He is adjusting very well with other pigs in the tank. He still prefers eating from the surface (I don't know why?) and has the typical tearing swiping motion when eating. I saw him eating the sponge exactly the same way.
He loves stealing the chopped shrimp from the feeding straw i use when feeding the CBB. His favorite daily diet now is Omega one flakes. the flakes works perfect in my situation due to the other aggressive tank mates (5 tangs + 3 wrasses + poma, emperor, flame angels +,,,) the flakes floats then sink spreading the entire tank evenly so everyone got a fair chance and each feeding is cleared in about a min. i usually feed them 4 times after off the work to make sure he is eating enough.
