Regal Angel Primer

The pea thing is the only suggestion I'd have, and of course if the fish isn't eating that doesn't do much good. Hope he turns around for you... Keep us updated
thanks for the reply. and yes, between his lack of desire to eat and quite frankly the inability to navigate where we wants (he literally just putz'es around the tank upside down and sideways) i doubt he is going to find the skinned defrosted pieces or peas.

if anyone knows or has used an antibiotic for treatment of these symptoms, please let me know as well. thanks again ami for the support.

i am going to treat him with kanaplex (kanamycin) tomorrow morning in hopes that treating for a bacterial infection might be the solution. i'll update here accordingly.

Monkiboy I am hoping yours gets back to normal, they are awesome fish. I have attached pictures of mine that I got from NY Aquatics late 2012 to show misbars don't go away with age

Sorry for the bad picture but it shows the other side, which did not. But either way the misbar may have changed but still a misbar. Originally I thought with age the lines would straighten out

So sorry to hear it. I'm not sure he had a chance.
thanks for the response - i appreciate it. such a gorgeous regal too. the only upside is that it was dd so they return the money paid without hesitation this morning. feeling down about it today but will be on the hunt for a smaller/small-medium size soon here to try to avoid some of the decompression issues and feeding challenges.

Man, been reading through the thread and its depressing how many people bought regals and just tossed them in the dt and then the fish died from an infections, or disease or couldn't get it to eat.. Almost all of the cases i read about would have been solved with a qt tank from the start :( Lots of nice regals still kicking though which is good.

Deeply saddened by the loss of my regal this morning. I have no clue what led to his death, I got him on 12/23 and he has been great ever since. Put on lots of weight while in QT through different treatments with no problems. Acting normal all the way till lights out last night. I was sure we were in the clear with this guy. He never once didnt eat with gusto. He did decelope a red lump in his left gill about a week ago but it had since almost completely healed. All the other fish in the QT are fine and the water checked out good some nitrites probably due to a water change i did yesterday to get rid of nitrates. I guess he was more sensitive than i thought

x2...acclimation tank is a must for these guys for diseases and acclimate them eating before competeing for food in the DT....

When I have deaths at 30-60 days with no apparent reason, I tend to suspect problems from capture or transport as the cause and there was nothing you can do. The origin of fish can be an indicator - general Indo-Pacific fish seem to have more deaths as compared to fish from identified places with stringent collection standards.

Newest addition to my 95g reef. 10cm Maldivian Regal. Got it yesterday. He (she) started nipping at sponges within an hour. Still somewhat shy. Zebrasoma tangs are letting him know who's the boss in the tank. Not really bullying but just a little too much attention.

no qt or prophylactic treatment with prazi? these fish need all the help they can get to adapt to our glass boxes. tossing it into one with semi/agreesive tankmates without qt, getting it to eat eagerly, de-worming, etc is asking for trouble. i would really encourage you to to consider other more diligent methods of introducing these fish to your system. i've just lost one to what we think is decompression issue when caught and no matter the reason it doesn't feel good. i do wish you the best of luck with your new regal. the photo looks great and i hope it works out. keep us updated!

Ugh yet another regal that will prob die from an infection or flukes. And it will be hard to train it to eat in an active tank... Good luck

monkiboy
Thanks!
Actually, this fish arrived from Maldives about a month ago. It was at my local LFS where it was pretreated for bacterial infection. I did see it eating artemia there. As of now this beautiful angel does look healthy! (keeping my fingers crossed) Unfortunately I'm unable to take a better picture of it... It hides as soon as I approach my tank with a camera ))

bacterial infections aren't all that common. what you want to do is treat with a de-wormer like praziquantel, two or three rounds. watch for white stringy poop as well. in fact, since the addition is so new, it likely isn't used to it's surroundings and would be easy to catch and get into a qt for proper acclimation, getting it adjusted to frozen and other prepared foods that you use, treatment, etc. the fish deserve the effort and diligence to offer them the best opportunity of success and a long life in our tanks. do you plan on feeding artemia to your regal? do you mean live brine?

It's been almost a week since I got my Regal. Hasn't touched the zoos yet. It's already eating frozen brine shrimp and "Omega One First Flakes". Zebrasomas totally ignore him.
