Regal Angel Primer

Wow, looks tiny. How big is it?

It is small, I would say no more than 3". She passed on the pellets but went almost immediately to the clam I thawed and then added. I put her in a 10g all alone because the yellow tang was chasing her. Very good to see her eat well. Started the copper treatment with 10 drops of Cupramine, will add more tomorrow until I reach .03-.05. Also will be treating with Parazipro every 5-7 days.

Why''d you start copper so soon? I'd say copper shouldn't be used as a preventative, and really only as a last resort. TTM is better for crypto and CP is better for velvet... I would not start copper so soon. Make sure the fish is eating what you want and how much you want before you start meds that significantly decrease appetite.

The powder brown I got defiantly has crypto. Also other I got from LA. I don't want to take any chances. What about hypo? I have not had great success with TTM. He ate a clam today very well. I watched him eat over a 1/2 hour, he did well.

i've never had issues with copper and regals. i've treated maybe fifty+ but i agree that some time for the regal to come in, adjust, destress, eating reliably and well for at least a couple weeks (assuming velvet or some very time sensitive parasite/bacterium isn't at play) before starting treatment, is ideal. keep us posted on progress, sounds like you got a great start with one that is eating immediately for you and asymptomatic for any serious malady.

Good to hear from someone with experience with copper+regals..

In my experience, sensitive fish respond better to easier meds but to each his own :) I think I may have to try a regal soon.... Just haven't found one I love yet.

sure thing. curious, i don't consider regals "sensitive" but understand most have taken that stance. i think if you deal with excellent supply chains sourcing from the right locales, acclimate, quarantine, and treat prophylactically with diligence while feeding high-quality foods, one will find them quite hardy and enjoy for many years.

if you do try one, be sure to share - there is some awesome ones on here but one more is always fun to read about!

What got a little cloudy after feeding the clam last night so I changed 50% of the water. Added a power filter with filter floss and some bio media. I need to get another air pump too, that will be today. Temp is ~80-82. He looked good this morning.

Good to hear... Keep trying to wean him on to prepared foods, start with frozen mysis! Try to add a little bit of mysis either stuffed inside the clam or just throw a 1/8 of a cube in when you feed the clam

I have PE mysis I will try when I get home today. Ideally how many feedings should I offer?

What happened to all those angels. Did you sell them (LFS)?
it's been over several years for myself (i have a lot of tanks), friends, and folks on facebook/instagram mostly. i help out and run an 8-week to however long needed qt and prophylaxis protocol on fish as an option to get the healthiest and parasite-free fish available.

i like regals a lot and the challenge of tamarin wrasses and "finicky" fish in general so i've gotten a lot of practice over the years. if i can help you with something, shoot me a PM. always happy to assist when i can.

That's what I do, just a small bowl...

Honestly, you can feed every thirty minutes or so just as much as you can. And try to siphon out as much uneaten food as you can to keep your water quality clear. I'd try to keep at least 20 gallons of premixed heated saltwater on hand for siphoning uneaten food out.

I got it just the other way around: I haven't seen that many I don't like... That's why I have so many.

Hahahaha I'm visiting my sister in college in two weeks :) She goes to school at a very prominent university in Palo Alto, so I'm going to be visiting Aquatic Collection :) I'm super excited!

Sadly I only have room for one...

No. I was getting conflicting advice and with some many fish coming in at the same time I didn't get that done. However I have other tanks/heaters/air stones/filters to build a sterile system to put him in after doing a dip. Has anyone lost a fish to this dip? Because some info I got was that it is very harsh on Reef fish and I wanted to be better prepared and had him eating well. The copper isn't a problem because I start with very low doses.

Fair enough. For what it's worth, I've only dipped 4 fish for 45 minutes and none of them ever showed any signs of distress, even a Meleagris Leopard Wrasse...

I don't use copper as well but if you're comfortable with it go for it!
