I've recently received the new large size pellets (3 mm) and I like them alot... a perfect size for medium sized angels...
Regarding the $500 pair of regals... anyone smart enough to keep a pair of regals would also be smart enough not to spend $500 on a pair...
Regarding my trio, it's been nearly a year and a half with the trio, and I posted I think on page 2 of the original thread years ago with my original single... it's great to see this thread go on with many successful regals... Here's a pic of my fish group I haven't posted... it's dated but the regals don't seem to have grown too much... I've since yanked the chrysurus pair and they'll be going in a fish only I'm getting going...
And here's an awesome image I haven't shared in this thread of a xanthic regal from the Maldives... needless to say this is not mine!
I am fortunate enough that my work carries me to one of the places you could find the angel that has been my passion since I got into the hobby... I travel every year or so to Guam in the Marianas Islands of Micronesia... I've been there about four times and go again this October... regals are one of the most common angels there, behind lemon peels maybe, and it's very exciting to see them in the wild... even if they're not yellow-bellied... Here's a couple of shots of them... Both of these are full grown regals at around 10 inches...

It's easy to see why small regals are almost never encountered in the trade... in all of my trips I have never seen a small juvenile... The gill spine on the large pairs is an easy indicator of sex, as is the body, but these are full grown adults... the question is when the long spine develops and under what conditions...
This is a shot of my male in my old system from a few years back... small at maybe four inches or so... but still showing the long preopercular spine... On my next trip I'll be diving a bunch and plan to really keep an eye on this... I've also figured out my underwater camera, housing and strobe out much more since my last trip to Guam... Anyway, it's nice to see so many regal lovers... I contribute to many threads and love angels, but regals have always been at the top of my list!

After four months my 4" RS regal finally has started to eat prepared foods. Tried hikari mega marine angel(frozen food) which he loved. Mixed some other food with it and now he's eating those. He's in a 300g established reef with lots of zoa's so he's been doing fine anyways but it is a relief to finally get him to eat prepared foods.

Vili, the chrysurus were picking on certain acros a little more than I was comfortable with, and on top of that I'm getting a fish only going. The idol began DEVOURING acros... not even picking... regardless of how much I fed him... Right now I have them in my large frag tank sectioned off until the other system is ready. They are excellent fish though... like puppies and are very tame. The price on them has dropped recently. The smaller I've had now for over two years and he's developed his yellow tail now.
I lost my first fish in over a year when my yellow tang carpet surfed of all things... I was upstairs and heard a buzzing... I ran down and found him wedged into the wires of one of my Ice Caps and got electricuted... A couple of weeks ago I got a beautiful bright yellow scopas to replace him with that's in quarantine... the brightest I've ever seen... usually the yellow phase scopas are a dirty yellow, but this has scopas spots and blue edging around the fins... a beautiful specimen... my poor man's gem I have to put him through my whole process to prepare him for the onslaught he'll get from the established gang... not the "dump and hope" many people use...

Greg, that's good info to hear... I've also seen many of those guys kept in reefs, with the majestic in a few full blown reefs. A local friend (leishman on RC here) has an adult blueface that is behaved with sps, yet eats zoanthids that he's able to get to when they grow out of the unreachable crevice they fill... Kevin Po also grew his from a juvie.
Another local friend (ckuhndog77 on RC) had his majestic in his full blown reef with soft corals and all. Sanjay Joshi had a majestic in his full blown 180 in his house before his upgrade, with zoanthids and all. These Euxiphippops guys (I believe now a subgenus) seem to be much safer than others...
The asfur in the photo is also awaiting the fish only after picking too much... the regals I've never had any problems with, and only pick on a large Porites sp. I have that could handle it...
MArineone, are you referring to the liveaquaria pair? I've never seen other regals sold as a collected pair... My guess is it would have no effect on their adaptation...

For the longest time my regal pair havn't been eating any nori that I have seen. Recently I have been trying to catch my rabbitfish and set up a trap with nori bait and after a few days, both regals are going in for snacks. I wonder if the waving nori normally frightened them, but in the motionless water of the trap it sits still and they aren't spooked.

Although I would trust blue-face angels in an SPS reef aquarium, I don't trust them with many soft corals and zoanthids. In fact, I added an adult blue-face angel to my large reef aquarium with the intention that it would eat mushroom corals that were threatening to overrun the tank. It worked! It's eaten most of them and saved me the hassle of further removing mushroom-encrusted rock and replacing it with "clean" rock. IMO and IME, navarchus are a better choice in a mixed reef.
I asked about the asfur because I had issues with two specimens and had to ultimately remove them from reef aquariums.

Just got my Regal, no issue so far, eating like a hog, anything I put in the water it will eat. The below pic is the day after I got him, a little bigger and much fatter now, and the color has improved as well.
