That just temporary right? A sort of quarantine to make sure he's healthy and eating and then he's going into a 125 or so right? Right?!

Wow, and someone was upset at mine for being in a 4ft tank even though they probably didn't realize that it's 3ft deep as well(hence the 170g).

I must say I am surprised at how nimble this fish is for its size (really my 1st "large" fish). He will swim sideways through narrow spaces (eg: between acro branches), can turn on a dime, etc.
He's still not the most adventurous fish in the tank, but it's only been a day. He seemed more reclusive when the halides were on, so I ran them for a few hours then put it back to just actinics. He's now out and exploring again, but seems to have found a home cave that he always goes back (well, really an arch I guess). Neither the purple tang nor the flame angel have paid him any mind whatsoever, which I'm happy about.

PS: I say "he" because I read that long gill spines are a sign of a male and his seem fairly prominent, is that accurate?

Update: I put an opened clam in the tank for the angel to eat and he and the rest of the tank ignored it for about an hour. Eventually he went and took a taste at which point every other fish in the tank went "well what's this stuff?" and came over to explore. I think he got annoyed with the crowd tasting his food too and swam away. Kind of a funny site to watch,... especially since nobody else is interested now that he's gone.

Just aquired one on Friday (8/31) from my LFS.

He had been in the LFS for about a month and eating mysis very actively (witnessed this also).

He had a bit of a quarrel with my PBT when first introduced (http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1197508) but is now getting along great.

He is eating the mysis as well as half shell clams while also picking at the rocks very actively.

A few quick pics:

Thanks Mirror Pond for the tip on wedging the food in!

bradleyj,

great to see it swimming amongst all the other fish in the tank.

(btw, I love how you have an abundance of coralline algae on your LR). What is your secret?

Kirk

This helps alot.

It amazes me how some find fish at lfs' that have been there nearly a month. If you see a fish you like at the lfs' in my area, you'd better get it cause it most likely won't be there the next time you go. Plus, I don't think the fish could survive that long in their tanks anyhow.

My guy is out and about eating anything I throw in the tank.
This is the little guy. The other that I got from NYAquatics, stopped eating and died while I was on vacation.

how old is everyone's regal?
i've had mine for over a year and a half now. if she died, i think i'd quit the hobby.

Forgive me if this is a repost but I am at work and cant read the whole thread.

I am currently filling my 380 gallon (10'L x 24"W x 30"T) I would like to get a pair of Regals or even 3 if that is possible.

If I decide to get a pair should I hold out until I can find a mated pair for sale or do I just need to make sure I get a male and female?

Would it be possible for 2 females and 1 male to coexisist?

Thanks in advance for the information,

Stil
