My LFS got this in today, five inch orange regal. 100 bucks and i have a coupon. Does it look like he has ich? He is super fat and acting great, should I take the plunge? And can I quarantine and use cupramine on this fish?

It may have some Lymphocystis on the tail? But that gets cleared up with good water quality and food. My biggest question has it started eating yet in the store?

Just called and talked with the LFS again, they are running a sale this weekend for fifty percent off, so the angel would come down to fifty bucks. They think his tail looks like that just from being roughed up during shipping. They are going to make sure he is eating for me tonight. Dare I pass it up at fifty bucks? How do they respond to cupramine?

Copper is hard on angels for the most part from what I've heard, they can still have it just don't do as well as other fish.

That's what I've seen through all my reading and research. I don't think I can pass it up. I just hope he eats! Any tips for getting these guys to if he isn't eating?

Try it but be aware that some are caught with cyanide, and/or won't eat in captivity. At that price it is worth a try! Definitely quarantine and keep us posted.

If YOU can see the fish eat, buy it. If not eating it's a big gamble. It is a must QT situation. TTM it with 5 gallon buckets, air stones and an air pump and no worries with ich.

For $50 I'd take the gamble, need to find out what they try and feed it then decide. If they only try a couple of food items might still be worth trying at that price

I put my regals through QT with cupramine followed by prazi pro. Both angels handled it fine, but I did bring the levels up slower than the instructions suggested.

Well I did it. He's in quarantine now. 52 bucks for a five inch regal. I think I did pretty well. Ate some in the fish store last night and he's super fat. Probably going to end up being the show piece of my 220. Any suggestions to entice him to eat in quarantine?

Good score! We got a similar sized one for $75 and I thought that was a great deal. We've had him for 14 months now and doing well.

Try getting live clams from the grocery store (the ones on ice are alive and you can acclimate to your sump - they will last for months usually). Split one open and give him 1/2 of it and save the other 1/2 for the next day. Angels seem to really love clams.
