Regal Tang

Hi

I have a Juwel Vision 450 Which is approx 112gal, I have a Regal Tang which was a tiny baby. I rescued her from being eaten at lfs, I call it dori because she sems to act like dori, she about 2 and a half inches in size now and doing well, but I am a bit worried , I read on another thread that my tank may be to small for her. I usually avoid buying tangs because of size and prone to diseases, but as stated earlier i couldn't allow her to be eaten. She doesn't seem interested in swimming around the tank she tend to stick with my clowns and their anemone, even when she eats she stays near anemone, she tries to join the clown in the anemone, but they chase her out of it. they will tolerate her near the anemone but not in it, but she does sneak a rub at the anemone. will my tank be a problem?

Should be fine for a couple of years, I would say. How long is the tank ? Is there plenty of swimming room ? It would help if it was the only tang in the tank, too.

2 1/2" is quite small, but mine were an inch when they went in and are 3" now in under a year... ! They grow quick given optimal conditions.

Not to be mean or anything but, did you do any research on Regal Tangs before you brought it home? I only ask because I learned the hard way about "rescuing" fish a long time ago. I saw a goby in a fish store that I thought was being deprived by the LFS and mistreated by the other fish. It was in bad shape, so, I took it home. What a nightmare. This goby was the type that like to create massive holes in your sand, and I mean massive! Constantly fanning my sand and my tank was always cloudy... corals completely covered with sand all of the time. Some of my rockwork ended up falling and crashing down on my purple-tipped Capracornis and some beautiful Acro's that I had... destroyed them. All because of the digging and 'cave construction'. If I had read about him first, I could've saved myself a lot of trouble.

Personally, I think your Clowns are going to stress the fish out enough to put it in a position of bad health. Yeah, I know... it's not the ray of sunshine that most people will shine on you but it's my honest opinion. I have one Maroon Clown hosting in a Rose Anenome by itself and it attacks me when I go in the tank for anything. The tolerate it for a while but they end up getting extremely agressive. I just think that your Tang went from a bad situation to a worse situation. Being chased is never fun... no matter what neighborhood you're in.

As i stated i do know about them. because i originally thought about buying tangs so i did the research and i freely admit that they are not my first choice i think about buying, i usually avoid them, as for her being stressed she grew up with clownfish, they rarely bother with her at all, even when feeding, as i say the only time they bother if she goes in the anemone then they just chase, she has shown no sign she is stressed, she had no illness and i have had her for about 9 months now. The tang itself is not worrying me she is in good health, she one of the first to eat, it the size of the tank that had me worried, I know they grow upto 12" but i have never seen one that is 12"
