Recap

We're just a few days away from the event. I just wanted to recap the guidelines for this Saturday.

Hi Everyone,

As promised, here are the guidelines for the Regional Club Frag Swap on November 4th. Some of you will notice that the structure is identical to how BAR conducted theirs back in February. For those that are seasoned frag swap veterans, this will be second nature.

To be entitled to participate in the swap, you must bring at least 3 frags along with your prepayment for lunch. If you’re unable to contribute frags, you may ‘Buy In’ to the swap by donating $15 (which will also be pooled into the proceeds for charity). Again, this is open to everyone that is and isn’t a club member.

Please bring your corals:

1) Pre-fragged
Preferably, pre-fragged with enough time to encrust/attach onto something. If the frags you are bringing are fresh cut, please frag the coral the night before to give the frag time to stop sliming and sloughing, and to improve survivability before packing it to bring to the swap.

2) In a plastic container or double bagged
I highly recommend the Rubbermaid TakeAlongs containers, which never leak. The containers by Glad aren’t nearly as leak proof. Double bagged LFS bags are fine as well, but please NO ziploc bags.

3) Labeled
Please do your best to label each frag with a Sharpie. Please include the frag’s common name and/or scientific name, brief tank placement description (i.e. low, 250W), and your RC handle.

I also suggest you bring some kind of ice chest/cooler for the corals that you pick during the swap. Blue LED flashlights are also handy for quick decision making.

Pick Order
Each participant will be given a nametag and Letter, which will be the group with whom you’ll pick with.
Corals will be grouped according to type.
Groups will rotate through the picking area with each person picking 1 coral.
Bonus tickets will pick first in each round.
The order of groups picking will go up, then down. For example, if there are 3 groups the order would be:
Bonus, A, B, C…
Bonus, …C, B, A
Bonus, A, B, C…

Bonus round/bonus tickets
Bonus tickets are obtained by bringing 'rare' corals, or by bringing multiple other corals. For each Bonus ticket, you get one pick in a Bonus round which is in place of your normal picking group in that round. If you have multiple bonus tickets, you can only use one in each bonus round. Once you are out of bonus tickets, you will revert to your regular picking group for the next round. If a bonus round has too many people in it, it will be split into two just to make the picking area less frantic.

One bonus ticket is given for each of the following:
2 'rare' frags
12 'normal' frags

I’m really looking forward to seeing you all on the 4th!

Best regards,

Karl

We should be over 60, barring any last minute cancellations.

"Oh, it's on.." "It's definately on!"

Karl,

So we have the meeting place from 11a - 4p, so frag checkin starts at 11a then, right ? What time does the swap (the picking rounds, etc) start ? What is the latest time for checkin ?

I looked back and didn't see this info, but if I just missed it somewhere just let me know.. thanks :)

Hi Tom,

I didn't want to set a program list or timetable, since they never really seem to work with frag swaps:lol:

I figure, people will be trickling in between 11-11:30. We'll try and spend the first hour getting everyone registered with their tags and bonus tickets.

We'll get lunch and hopefully the swap rounds started around 12:30am. Then, get the raffle started in the later rounds.

HTH

Karl

What all is everyone bringing to the swap?

So far, I'm putting the following on the tables:

Electric Green Birdsnest
Tubs Branching Alien Eye
Blue base maroon polyps monti - looks like the LE Monasteriata
Montipora capitata - Rice coral - green w/purple polyps in high light, white w/blue polyps in low light
Cali tort

Some other stuff that I haven't picked out yet.

Mmmmm, I've always wanted a rice coral.

Electric Green Birdsnest
I'm bringing that as well, and some from my buddy whom just got sick and can't attend :( I bought 5 tickets, and only two are being used :( Dunno what happenned to the 2 other BAR raffle winners?

Well, the adminission fee was for the swap, the food was sort of a "side benefit" and necessary as it paid for the swap venue. Since this is not a club sponsored event, club IDs are not required :). You can always ask to see if anyone who bought a ticket and can't attend would pass along their spot to you though, I am sure that you would be welcomed :)

What all is everyone bringing to the swap?

I listed most of what we are bringing in the side trades thread :), although it all depends on what looks the best tomorrow when I start packing them up for the trip up North, so the list may change. Also might throw in a few "other" ones as well, just haven't decided which ones are ready to frag or not :D

:( bummer, no frags for me?

Gresh, no frags for you!

I got you covered on the rice coral.

Sweet. John was gonna give me one a while ago, but I can't seem to make it to his place...ever :(

Hi Leah,

Sorry you missed it. Guess you haven't been on RC for awhile. I thought mid-September would be enough advance notice. I tried to extend out the deadline as far as I could, but had to turn away several people yesterday.

:(

Karl

that's okay. it works out fine for me, with how things are going at my place it would be a big hassel to get out there and i am glad i double checked as it would have SUCKED big time to pester my mom for a ride only to get there and not be allowed in. the swap being full gives me a good excuse not to go w/out feeling too bummed out. i mean its busy at my place, we just adopted a 1 year old australian shepard mix for one thing and MAN does he need alot of attention and training!

Thoughts on mushrooms. I have a few that are unmounted, they didnt want to mount to a rock. would there be a issue with that?
