Reidi Seahorse fry

Going into day 3 now.
Cautiously optomistic.
I had repaired a couple of problems with the spray bars. Also removed a section of the opaque backing I was using to block the light on the front of the tank to better observe. Still have the tank lit from the bottom.
Still using the Nanno but have upped the dosage of the selcon on the rotifers.
I am not feeding the rots nanno in the nursery this time round, but am using phyto-feast "live" instead to help protect water quality.
I am feeding the fry much heavier and more frequently than the prior broods.
I have been watching the density of the rots in the nursery and can see the difference over a few hours. Tried to strain the rotifers to add to the nursery, but have been using a turkey baster instead. Can actually see them snicking at the newly introduced rots! Very cool! : )
Although I can see the bubble in many, there are some that don't appear to have one.
And of these fry, I can see a difference in coloration. Not so transparent and pale but turning more of a darker beige color.

just curious about the bubble

Is it an air bubble and if so is it comming from the surface or air stone???

or just unknown

I am on day 3 of erectus fry, and I would bet that 50/50 have the bubble/dont have the bubble. I'm using rayjays gal. jar method this time and so far its better than the 1 gal. bowl I used in the past. I'm feeding day old BBS is the only difference. Noone gets a chance to get to the surface, and I havent lost one yet!

kichikoi: I would like to see a pic of your set up if you can post one.

The "air bubble" is actually the fry's swim bladder. When the Reidi come up for their first gulp of air, some get more than others...You can tell by the size of that bubble just below the throat. Too big, and literature I've read said they won't be able to swallow food. (you can see the fry's swim bladder in the #4 pic I posted in my album.)
I'm using water for the kreisel effect vs air, so no air stone or bubbles in the nursery sections of the tank.
Congratulations Ssantac! I would really like to try Rayjay's method myself, but don't have a growing setup for Nanno. So, I'm really concerned about water quality without it in the gallon jar. I have to feed rots to start, H. Reidi are teeny tiny! Wish, wish, wish they were Erectus! I'll take a pic to post!Good luck!

We just about have a full week under our belt and about 3 dozen of the fry are still hanging in there. Some are looking pretty skinny but several look good and have changed to a darker beige with one even more of a gold (He's alot bigger than the others).
I'm feeding at least every 4 hours and much heavier than the prior batches with enriched rots. Daily water changes. Keeping my fingers crossed and my eyes on the tank!

What no pics? All I can say is amazing! Maybe one day I can try it!

10 days.... : (
Well, There are still some survivors, but only a few. This has been the longest I've kept them alive. So I guess that's showing improvement. I've been losing some each day though. Failed at my first attempts to decaps. Now I've got it down but a little too late. I will try the peroxide with the remaining bs that were not decaps as I'm sure I've lost several of the fry to the micro-critter the bs carry as well as starving. Sad...
Also changing the set-up for the next batch, Going with Peka's 2 1/2 g. fb in a 20 long. It's been sooo hard trying to keep the food concentration up in the divided 29. If I had used a micron screen vs aquarium divider I may have been able to keep the food within the nursery section of the tank. I really did like the water volume for water quality though.

2 weeks! 2 weeks!...
I am so excited! We have finally gotten past the dreaded one week mark!
There are only 2 that have survived thus far with my bumbling efforts, but I'll take them as success!
I have continued enriched rots as well as feeding enriched bs. I have had to use the meth-blue, as one continues to scritch but is still eating! I am getting more comfortable decapsing and peroxiding the bs so hopefully in the future that will not be an issue.
For the first time in 4 months, I had to be concerned with getting a new tank set up.
It was a bit of a scramble as I didn't think these two would make it this far.
I would like to thank everyone on this site who have been so helpful with their ideas, thoughts and experiences as well as just cheering me on with raising these difficult little beings! Although, I'm pretty darn sure I'm not done bugging you yet as we still have a ways to go!
Gotta go stare at the tank, new brood is due today....

New batch of fry is arriving RIGHT NOW! With the delay in between, babies look a little bigger than prior batches. Hopefully that helps! Gonna go rescue them to the nursery tank!

Happy early Mother's Day to me!
180...give or take a few...
Sharing half with a friend, who will be using RayJay's method.
I'm still using the divided tank, but will go to moving them about day 7 to the goldfish kriesel as Beth uses.
Got Dan's feed, Billions of enriched rots...BBS, hatching more....
reading and re-reading any and all threads on everyone else's experiences, while staring, testing and feeding...

Happy Mother's Day indeed! Wow, 180!

I, too, now have Dan's Feed on hand, and will be better prepared for my next batch.

It's great to have both you, and Walter (WallysWorld) on the LIRA forum, pretty much at the same stage in this learning process -- and, of course, all the terrific people here on this forum willing to help and share information! And even though the three of us all have different species, we're all going through pretty much the same travails. I wasn't sure of mine (didn't trust LFS ID), but Abbie of Sea Horse Source finally gave me a positive ID of H. kuda. And the fry are pelagic, just like your reidi.

Well here we are months after my SH began spawning. Have not been able to have any survivors beyond 3 1/2 weeks. Although having to be out of town alot this summer may be a big part of the reason.

I am beginning to wonder if I have Kuda? instead of Reidi though also at this point?

I highly recommend Peka's replacement screens on the kreisel's that she gets from a "Home Beer Brewing" business. I was able to get mine in town. The BS nets do work also, but don't allow as much flow through, as the screens do. They allow adequate flow, but also keep most of the NHBBS within the fb. That has been the most difficult challenge for me. Before trying those I could not keep my new fry well fed as the nhbbs went right through the aquarium divider I was using.
I am now also only keeping about 2 dozen fry from each spawn and sharing the bulk with a friend in the area whom I would qualify as Expert in fishkeeping.
I am really hoping to see some progress with survival rate from here out...Hopefully.
