Damnit! Why can't you ever have any good news? haha

I always have the good news!

I'm not saying 16" is definitely a no-no, but it's always easier to lower them in a canopy than raise them. If you've got the space, play around with it to find the best coral response.

Is 16" from the water really too much for my lighting?

That's perfect if you use LumenBrights. Nice tank BTW. I have the same size but from Aqueon. You can see my build thread for pictures of the lighting.

Finally... An Update!

Finally... An Update!

I tried to post this last weeked, but there was an error, and I hadn't copied the text before submitting, and I lost everything. It made me so mad!

Anyway, there has been a lot of progress in the past couple of weeks but not as much as I'd like, of course. Work has been crazy lately, and now that it's warm, the wide and I have been planting a couple of trees and getting some other landscaping done so that the new yard doesn't look so barren. By the way, digging holes for trees is not awesome. Damn me and my DIY attitude!

I was able to get Tap Plastics to ship me Weld On 4, and that should be here tomorrow. I had 3, but got a little bit too nervous to ue it on my first acrylic project. I decided that it was worth waiting another week or two to not have to buy another sheet of acrylic when I screw up :)

On to some pics...

Here is my fancy pants crab trap in with the cycling rocks:

I haven't caught anything, and it's been about 10 days. Either I don't have any crabs in there, or I have crabs in there that are way smarter than me. I've also spent the last 8 weeks, listening for mantis shrimp clicking around in there, and have heard nothing. Hopefully I'm safe. I felt safe enough to put five peppermint shrimp in there from Premium Aquatics last weekend. Hopefuly they aretaking care of any aptasia remnants on the rock and not becoming mantis snacks.

A lot of plumbing has also been done. I have the lines under the stairs to the fish room taken care of:

And here is where they come out into the fish room:

And I've also been working on my pseudo closed loop:

I am taking some of the flow from one of the return lines to direct a little bit of the flow to the bottom area of the tank. I installed this valve to control the flow:

will also be able to open it up to mix things up from time to time if I so desire.

I ran everything down using some black PVC that I got at Savko when I was in Columbus:

Of course I drilled anti-siphon holes at the top of the pipe.

I have not yet decided if I want to have the 45 degree elbows on the two front corners of the tank at 45 degrees and 135 degrees, or at 30 degrees and 150 degrees in comparison to the front glass:

I've also installed fans in the canopy:

I still need to mount the temperature probe and make some acrylic covers for them.

I've wired the T5s in:

And finally, I have my handy-dandy brute 42 gallon can on wheels filled with RODI water ready to mix as salt water. I've also been stockpiling RODI water in jugs so that the filling process goes a little faster.
