hey guys whats up.i just did some aquascaping and rearranged my rock work i was just thinking im going to the beach a little later on and i had alot of rock left over i mean alot just a bunch of small pieces maybe 20pounds and i was going to take them down to the beach and put them back in the water cause i have no use for them and i have no one to give them to the LFS didnt want them cause they were just small pieces so do u guys think its a good idea to put them back and also my sump already has some live rock

Don't do this. It is best not to risk introducing anything to the wild, no matter how innocuous it seems. Especially if your rock has ever been exposed to anything from the indo-pacific.

hey james thanks for the reply even if i got the rock from the same spot im putting them back in isnt it ok.all my rock was collected on a beach in isabela here in puerto rico

There could be foreign hitchhikers in them. You need to make sure they're sterilized before you return them to the beach.

Soak the rocks in a bleach and water mix for a day or two. Rinse it with a little Amquel mixed with water. The rocks should be sterile and can be returned to the sea.

It's not about life finding a way it's about introducing something to an eco system that it can't support nor control. best bet is to do what joeychitwood said or keep them.

Just throw them in, life finds a way.

that's precisely the reason NOT to just throw them in. parasites, diseases, etc. that can populate closed systems do not need to be introduced to the wild. despite the rock being collected locally i still would not return any of it to the sea without putting it through the sterilization treatment discussed above.

i said sorry the ocean should be alright i wouldnt sweat it the rock was collected from there and i just put it back i did wash them with freshwater and let them sit in the sun for a couple hours

It does not matter if the rock came from one location and then you are going to put it back. It all matters where it was last. What everyone is saying is that there are species that are not indigenous to PR that my be on that rock after being in your tank. Take a look at this.

What you did was very close to breaking the law.

ahhh no big deal my tank has no foreign organisms all my fish were caught here in puerto rico and my nems too and also my featherdusters also my sand and live rock were caught or taken from here in puerto rico i have absolutely nothing in my tank from foreign waters so what organism can i possibly introduce to caribbean waters if anything im giving a new home to starfish, crabs, inverts etc.....

You did what you did. Nothing can change that. But why ask if you weren't going to take anyones advice? Just a question.
