I have the opportunity to buy a slightly used remora C pro for 70$ to use on a 46 bowfront. I was wondering if this is a good deal and how well the product works. It seems like a steal and budget is definitely an issue seeing that im a college student. Any feedback is appreciated, thanks.

I have the regular aqua c remora (not the pro version) and i had it on my 55 and it worked great. And i got mine for the same price. I say get it after you make sure its not busted in half or anything like that lol.

The pro version is rated for bigger tanks than the regular i believe, and i'd say the regular is good up to about 60g. The pro will be great imo.

They are decent skimmers and I am currently using one on my 65 and it works alright. However, I will be selling as soon as I am able to scrpae up enough money to buy a tunze 9010. Its performance is satisfactoy not great. But for 70 dollars that sounds pretty good.

Is that for just the skimmer? Ask if a pump is included, if not you have to get a pump...maybe a mag3 or a Quite One eqivelent. Also are you gonna use it as HOB or in your sump? If a HoB you might want a pre skimmer box.
Also it's kinda loud, I had to shut my Remora off at night or when I watched TV in the same room. This can be remedied some what with a wet paper towel trick.

I have a remora. It's OK. Two of my friends bought the Coralife "Super Skimmer" with needlewheel pump for about $75 and I have to say that they are really good. Possibly the best skimmers at that price point. The Remora is a good skimmer though, I bought mine used for $60. I think if you put a stronger pump than the MJ 1200, it works better.

For $70 for a pro if including a pump is an awesome price, wish I can find good deals like that up here. usually they go for $150- $200 used up here!

it is a HOB, i dont have a sump... i have a maxijet 1200, is this sufficent? What is a pre skimmer box and how expensive are they? wet paper towel?!

Wet paper towel over the area where the white screw is. Once you get the skimmer you will see. It will muffle the air/water mixing noise.
The company that makes the Remora also makes a black acrylic box that skims the surface and reduces micro bubbles.
i use the maxijet 1200 on my remora, you might want to step up a few GPH on the PRO.

Hey Darth, thanks for the advice, i picked it up today and can see the white screw... i will try the paper towel once i get it up and running...so i just put the paper towel over that white screw and it will stay? are we talking about a full sheet or just a small piece?

The paper towel is just there to muffle the sound. Once you run the remora, you'll figure out the paper towel part, and how much you need.
