In Memoriam
This is my design for a remote deep sand bed/refigium (back up sump) I have nothing in my system to get ride of nitrates.... And very little space and a smaller amount of funds. I have a bout a 1 foot and 8 inches long and about 9 inches across to place this.
I can't afford a nitraban reactor, and I don't have room for an off the back refigium
My current set up is, 2 inch virgin sand bed, 60 pounds of LR in a 55 gallon tank, 2 fluval 404 filters, a PCA sump rated for 175 gallons, a 150 watt MH, and about 5 power heads for circulation.
Adjustment notes on the RSDB/REFUGIUM: 1. The baffels will be drilled like swiss cheese, their olny purpose is to hold the refigium contents in place. 2. If power cuts to my tank the over flow box, plus the capicity of my other sump will prevent over flow. 3. the baffels despite how they're drawn will end 1.5 inches below the tank. to allow water circulation over them.
Please if any one has any opnion on wether or not this will work, or ant design tips please let me know. P.S. I'm sorry but I did this at work and all we have here is MS Paint, it's a car dealer ship...
