Remote utility sink with pump?

I am in the planning stages of my small fish room and wanted to know if anyone was using a remote utility sink with a laundry tray pump if so what brand and what issues have you seen so far? I am a bit worried that some sand may go down the drain from time to time but was wondering if anyone has had any issues. I may have to use this set up to avoid having to come out the fish room and tote buckets of water to a utility sink near the furnace.

Almost forgot any pictures you have would be great of how it's configured in your set up...

I kinda did something similar. Except I used a eheim pump I had laying around. A 1262 to be exact. I was tired of hauling buckets and my wife was getting on me for using the kitchen sink. I will take some pics and post them tomorrow. As far as issues I have not had any. I do get sand in there as well as some carbon pellets when cleaning my carbon reactor and never had a problem.

I have been running a utility sink with pump - not because it's remote, but because it's below the main drain pipe to the septic. Mine is a Little Giant WRSC-6. I had to replace it about 10 years ago (after having used the first one for 9 years) so its pretty solid. Has a mechanical strainer that keeps large particulate material out of the pump, but sand and bits of carbon don't seem to bother it much.

rholguin & ca1ore - thanks for chiming in! When you guys get a a chance please post pictures of how yours is configured. I want to see how much space they take up when plumbed to the sink. Did you guys tie it into your sewer line or just to your sump area where your sump pump is located. I am thinking I will tie into my sewer line with a tee of some sort. Its good to know sand and carbon have not been an issue for you two. Off to do some more research .

Sure, will snap a picture shortly. It's a bit scuzzy though I plumbed it up and over to tie directly into the main septic line.

ca1ore - Thanks! In your opinion is there anyway to make it fit under the sink if you have a P trap installed. Looks like it needs more space than I had originally suspected. I am trying to plan out my back wall and was hoping it could fit under the sink.

I'm sure there are different styles of slop sinks and laundry pumps. I have space so didn't need to, but with a bit of jerry-rigging I think you could fit it, yes. You might have to raise the sink slightly bit that's doable.

rholguin - Thanks! I see you don't have a Ptrap...straight to the pump. Is that a brass fitting on the tee above the pump? What is that for?

It was supposed to be for connecting a hose and doing my water changes. Instead I bought a python water change hose and hooked it up to the sink.

You are correct no ptrap. I figured since I was draining into my washing machine drain and there is already a ptrap on that drain I didn't need one.

rholguin - Thanks for the info. So the barb was on the inlet? Thats a nice idea gets the suction that you need to start a siphon...I like it .
