hello everyone.....i need help with the whole removing the bioball theory. I have a proclear 125 wet dry...i would like to remove the bio balls...slowly/gradually of course....my problem is when i did this initially while setting up my tank....the water entering the wetdry just rains down a good 8 inches to the waterlevel in the sump and creates a very loud raining sound. Could i put a piece of liverock on top of the eggcrate after removing the bioballs to buffer the noise or will that create the same "nitrate factory issue? if not any suggestions to help with this problem???

so your saying, maybe omit the tray at the top holding the filter media, possibly move that down onto the eggcrate and extend the overflow down through the lid ....im not very hand but its worth a shot! just have to find some fittings that will fit the hole in the top of the wet dry

FWIW, when I did this, I just pulled the hose off the top plate, removed the tray and stuffed the hose down in the water. I left the eggcrate in so my skimmer had a nice place to sit.
