Removing sand with a diamond goby

So I am thinking about removing the sand from my DT and putting g it in my sump as a DSB, I have a diamond goby that feeds on mysis during daily feeding, he does not sift thru the sand much that I see. Thoughts?

I'd trade the goby to the lfs or put him in the sump.

Or just buy more sand and leave what you have in the DT....

Note: removing sand can cause problems as you are releasing potentially trapped organics,etc...

Deep sand beds need a pretty big footprint to really be effective IME, so unless your sump is massive or the space dedicated to the DSB is fairly large you might want to pass on it altogether. I'm not really sure if putting the Diamond Goby down there would be such a wise choice either. If the micro fauna play any sort of role in keeping a DSB healthy then putting something that preys on them in the same tank probably not the best idea.

How big is your DT btw?

.........if you can train it to spit the sand into a little bucket for you I suppose it would work, but may go a little slow.

I'm assuming the sump will be broken down into three sections? If this is the case then it's just too small IMO, for both the DSB and the Diamond Goby. It's your call though. Good luck!

Agreed, I was hopping I could remove the sand bed and keep the goby in the DT being how he eats mysis at every feeding. Thanks everyone
