Ok

I got my skimmer and its looks real cool . The problem is that I need to remove a inside wall in the sump for it to fit has anyone ever had to do this before and what did you use. I don't want to make to much heat because I need the sump to still hold water . So any Ideas ?

I think I would try something like a dremel with a flex shaft and a small blade or cutter and just trim it out accordingly. I have one here if you don't so, if you want some help let me know. It is acrylic right?

yes acrylic . Thats what I was thinking as well . I have a flex shaft and a dremel .I will go by home depot for the blade .

Thanks how is the tank doing after the removal of the forest area doing ?

I know that there are some people that would love to have your plant growth . Have you ever thought of selling your live rock to someone looking to have a planted sea scape tank ?

Well I cooked the bulk of the rock after removal, I didn't put it back in because the peices I left that had corals and stuff on them, and the sand, AND the overflow walls all got covered in weed again! I freind of mine is coming at christmas to get his stuff out of my tank and then I'm going to empty it, bleach and start over. It beat me, this time. I even tried a uv sterilizer and it didn't help of change growth either. Oh well, thats what makes this fun right the challenge? Ha! Thanks for asking, good luck with the sump today.

Thanks

Why bleach couldn't you use vinegar and just run the system with vinegar instead of water and clean everything out at one time ? Will bleach eat at the seals of the tank ?

Good luck yourself with your tank . Hoping the New Year brings everyone what they need .

Funny you say that Roy. I have an old oceanic 42 hex I was thinking about setting up as a seahorse tank(again) here in my office. I figured that weed would be ok with them. Now you really have me thinking about it. (Thanks for the pump too. )

I don't know about the silicone sealer with bleach. Will the vinegar kill the spores from that stuff? I know bleach will. That is my only concern is killing the spores left in the tank and sand. I don't want to do this again.

Not sure about that either just something I was thinking about when we talked about your tank last time .I'm sure someone could answer this question about vinagar .

It will actually dissolve some of the rock too. Not a lot due to density and such but bleach is a fine way to go. Plenty of rinsing is all I've seen recommended but I'd dump a good amount of dechorinator on the last rinse anyway.

Yes true but if your going to remove the sand anyway if you use bleach ,I would think that the vinigar would work to clean the equipment . I would put one of the rocks with a lot of the stuff on it in a bucket of vinagar and see what it looks like in the morning to see how much surface of the rock you loose .

Wouldn't vinagar be safer on the equipment and the sand than bleach ?

I wasn't going to remove the sand because it has so many sprigs of weed in it too. They pop up all over so I figured bleach, stir the sand up, let it settle and then rinse it a few times. I'm sure it will cycle hard when I fill it due to the by-kill in the sand but then I know the weed is dead. Did you cut the sump yet John?
