Replace euroreef rs80 on my 90

For no good reason except I want a trendy cone slimmer. Maybe a NAC77 or a SRO Diablo. Any suggestions. After I sell the rs80 it won't cost me much to upgrade. Something 500$ or less. There is a ton of Room in my sump so size is no big deal.

I have the Diablo XS 160 and I'm happy with it. Although the Diablo line are more hybrid cone skimmers than a true cone skimmer. Depending on how your tank is stocked you could go with the XS160 or the XS200.

If you want a true cone style skimmer lots of people are crazy about the SRO XP line. The SRO XP-2000 would fit your tank just right. Or you can try the new Sea Side Aquatics skimmers. I read a good review by mojo on one of their skimmers. It's kind of a hybrid between a Bubble Magus and an ATB using a Sicce PSK pump instead of an Atman. You could go with either the CS7 or CS8 depending on stocking levels.

I'd ask this in Mojo's Skimmer Q&A thread, see what he has in mind.

You could probably get away with a SRO 1000, if a ER RS 80 was handling your tank the SRO 1000 should do fantastic. I had a RS 80 on my 120 and I had to dump the cup three times a day.

This is for a new tank and new setup. SPS and a few fish. Maybe I should ask what's the best skimmer 500$ will buy?

SRO XP-2000 costs around $450. Rated for 180g. The Bubble Blaster pump pulls 34 scfh of air.
Diablo XS 200 costs about $325. Rated for 200g. The Sicce PSK-1000 pump pulls 32 scfh of air.
Sea Side Aquatics CS8 costs about $340. Rated for 230g. Sicce PSK-1000, 32scfh.

So the SRO XP-2000 is closest to your price point. I've heard great things about them and bubble blaster pumps. It has a 3-year warranty as opposed to 2 years on the Sicce (but if the time comes when you do have to replace it, it's expensive.) Does this all this mean it's worth spending the extra $100 over the CS8 or the XS 200? I don't have the answer, maybe someone who has used more than one of the listed skimmers will chime in with the info.

If it were me, I'd get the CS8 and spend the extra $100 on lighting.

SRO 2000, and don't look back. I had this on my 110g, and it is now on my 150g. I would not hesitate to use it on my future 90g that is replacing the 110g. Add the Octopus wasted container with auto shutoff, and you are set.
