Replace glass center brace

Hello Reefers,

I have a piece of center brace glass that I have tried cleaning with CLR, Bar Keeper's Friend, Muriatic Acid among other things. My Question is can I cut this out and replace it with same size and thickness piece of clear clean glass? And would it be possible to take it out completely? I am building a wood frame for the top with cross bracing included.

Thanks for all your help. Only serious replies only please, NO I wouldn't its there for a reason replies. I know that and want options to modify.

Not possible to remove it and leave it off. It can be replaced with a like piece of glass, but it is a lot of work, to do it right. Wanting options to modify, does not mean they exist or should be seriously considered. Best option for replacement is to take it to a tank builder/repair shop, and have the glass replaced the right way.

What you have is glass corrosion, and nothing is going to take it off. Hydrofluoric Acid may work, but usually the only way to clean glass this far gone is replacement.

+1 to Uncle's diagnosis.

Warning - Hydrofluoric acid is dangerous if not used properly with the proper equipment. Even if you figure out a way to get some, do not attempt to get/use it. It would likely leave a frosted surface anyway, which I presume is what you're trying to get rid of.

Replacing the brace is a much better and safer route to go.

Glass Clearing Agents for glass restoration are dangerous. They require eye protection, splash protection and a respirator.
All the glass cleaning experts I know agree that glass cleaning agents are nasty stuff. But if used properly, will take Stage I corrosion off your effected glass. Though these agents will remove the corrosion, they will not remove the pitting caused by the corrosion. In most cases replacement is the only viable solution.
