replace sump

will it hurt the beneficial bacteria if I replace the sump, need to make it larger for new skimmer but don't want to harm the fish or my invrts had a bad experiense changed from hob filter to sump and crash time everybody died what would be the best way to make this change this sump is been running now for one year is pretty stable really don't want to remove but don't have the space it keeps my nitrates and ammo at 0, what to do

I wouldn't think you would have to much bacteria die off, if you are just upgrading to a larger sump. I just went from a 20g long to a 30g but i'm still cycling so there wasnt any risk for me.

if u move everything quickly (sand and rubble if u have any in sump) and dont expose to air very long then u will get away with no cycle.

do you think I should just move the rock, chaeto just in case that by disturbing that sand I bring all that ditritus all ready in there and maybe just put new sand

most bacteria is in ur rock so i will move the rock and chaeto and leave sand for time being. no need to buy new sand just rinse old sand with ro water once its rinsed out really good place it in the sump.

wuold it be a good idea to dose maybe, microbacter at first to help the bacteria that might die off like a little boost if you know what I mean

i personally dont care for bottle bacteria products. to me its waste of money. if u keep ur rock submerged and only take them out for a fast transfer then ur not going to see any die off.
