Anyone with a sedra 3500 or 5000 laying around my pump froze and doesn't want to work I have tried cleaning without any luck.
If I can't find a used replacement pump then I will sell the skimmer as is and replace it with a Octopus Recirc. Anyone interested in buying the G-2 as is get with me, new replacement 3500 (original) is about $100.

I have a Hydor 450 gph (Red Sea Berlins use them) that I could probably spare if interested. Looks to be about the same size....

saltycritter has Sedra 3500 for $54.99 and Sedra 5000 for $69.99 plus shipping. My G-2 seems to have Sedra 5000 on it.

Tomoko will the pump you priced me work as a direct replacement for the sedra needle wheel? I think the one I would need would be 79.99 and 99.99 respectively? No?

You don't need the entire pump.. If your pumps impeller isn't damaged (broke) Then just buy the standard pump and replace the impeller with your old one. If your Impeller is broke then dont replace the pump just replace the impeller. HTH

Nitroq2, Yep the impellers should just swap out. Another trick I've seen that seems to do even better is to make a mesh wheel. You have to cut down the impeller and attatch some mesh to the impeller.. Its said to perform Tons better. I've yet to try it with mine since I've only got one impeller for each pump and they are both needle wheels. Do a Search here on RC for ASM mods. Or even Asm skimmer club. Shouldn't be to hard to find. If you do get another pump and have a stock impeller laying around I would for sure give it a try.

Andy it should have a white/silver sticker on it that says what model it is.. My G2 has a 3500 even though the box said 3500/5000 and my G4 has a 5000 and the box for it said 5000/9000. I knew what both of mine came with when I bought them. But the way the label the boxes it makes you think you got a bigger pump then you should have.

I am a bit skittish about doing the mesh mod on mine. I will probably wait till the Eheim pump with a mesh wheel to come out and replace the whole pump. The picture of it looked really neat. Some people had a noise problem with DIY mesh mod due to the mesh hitting the housing. One thing I wonder is the necessity to keep improving a skimmer. I have not yet really experienced any bad issue with a stock ASM running. I actually had a pleasant surprise of snail population increase after I had my ASM shut down for a month. My acroporas and other corals stayed brightly colored throughout the shutdown, too.

I think some people modify equipment because they love to tinker with equipment for the most part.

The G1x has a 3500 my G3 has a 5000.

I think the 5000 & 9000 use the same needle wheel impeller. If I was to change the 5000 out it would be for an Eheim, i'm very impressed by the 1260 thats running my return (it replaced a mag7).

As for the mesh mod, not a good idea i think, i think its people who like to fiddle and are compensating for other areas of skimmer feed/flow.

I haven't modded mine either. I wouldn't do it inless I had an extra impeller.. It does double the air into the skimmer. But I agree I am worried about it holding up. But if you have an extra impeller that your just going to toss in the corner ;)

Eheims are great My H&S has a Eheim 1260 on it. It works great and even though the pump is mounted as an external its still pretty quiet.. The only problem with them is they are very $$$ A 1260 with a Needle wheel runs 300 just for the pump. lol thats almost as much as my entire G4..

If it ain't broke don't fix it!

(Sorry 'bout that Will);)

I have an ocean runner on my turbofloater skimmer and it runs and works great. It is a needlewheel pump. Its got semi rigid "bristles" that stick out and are staggered with a pitch, like a propeller to help with flow in addition to creating bubbles.

I agree with the fact that the tank looks better without the skimmer running. I am thinking when I do fix it I might only skim every other week. I have also stayed with the vodka dosing with the skimmer off and haven't had any bad effects. Water is still clear.
