Replacement pump solution for Aquamaxx HOB-1

Hey guys,

I think my pump has bit the dust, and I need a replacement. Marine Depot has replacements available for $100 bucks, but I was wondering if anyone has tried any other pumps in the skimmer. They have a Shark 1.5 for a few bucks more, which looked to be nearly identical to the Shark 1.0 but gets 50% more air intake:

Has anyone tried swapping pumps in this particular skimmer?

I haven't run the skimmer since. I just put my turf scrubber back on and use a bit more carbon. If I do anything else with the skimmer, I may get a ceramic air stone. But I don't see that happening in the near future.
