Replacement RO canister - HELP

Hi all, I just had one of my canisters split right down the side spewing water all over the place until I came home today. Split started nearest the treaded end. LUCKILY I keep my RO unit mounted in the garage so no water damage.

The unit is a typical Coral Reef Pure-Flo II 50gph 4 stage. Sure, I can easily go online and buy a replacment canister, but honestly they seem sooooo cheap clear plastic and weak! My question are:

1) are there any alternate canister bottoms that would screw on to the head? PVC white non-see-through is ok too.
2) How about buying a whole new canister unit (top/bottom) that fits the same filter media? Would you call this an "industry-standard" or common size that I have?
3) can I buy glass canisters instead - pros/cons - same questions #1 & #2 applies?

As far as why it broke - not sure.... The garage doesn't get hot, RO unit is about 5 years old, no I never over-tighten the canisters, the o-ring looks good, and not very high water pressure slugs or water hammers that I know of occurred.

One thing I WILL do is put a ball valve on the supply line and just crack it enough to not starve the RO unit when operating. This way if a leak occurs ever again the rate of leakage would be considerably less.

Can anyone give me RO canister filter 101 brief? My budget is limited and I need to get RO production back online soon! Thanks!

Thank you!

I would say the clear is nicer to have - especially on the sediment stage, however at the risk of being a more brittle canister is just not worth it IMHO. To think, I actually had plans on moving this unit into my kitchen remodeling planned later this year - key word "had".

This all-white canister that you recommended is indeed the direction I was headed. So, I take it this fits the same size filter media cartridges, etc...?? Reason is that a still have several carbon DI cartridges in my stock.
