Replacing optical sensor on old Ozmolator

I was wondering if I could just replace the optical sensor on my old Ozmolator? It's an old model and worked well for a long time but it failed and won't recognize when the level is reached. It refills to the high level float then shuts off with the alarm.

I have since bought the new replacement but would like to continue to use this one in the garage.. Is this a usual piece to fail on an older unit? Seems the board is OK right? If the unit is still turning on and shutting off at the high level alarm my guess is its still functioning.. But I'll leave that to the experts lol..

Thanks in advance and how much is the replacement sensor if you feel that may be my issue?

It is generally unusual for the optic sensor to fail, the only exception being some from 2011 which we tried a different assembly technique and that as why we still replace those at no charge. In general when an optic sensor fails the symptom is a perpetual green LED and no fill. They are designed to fail in the off position. If it is an overfill, especially with the green and yellow light showing, that tends to point to a more serious board issue that cannot be repaired.

OK thanks I'll look into it more but I think my memory is right on the overfill so it's probably the unfixable one lol.. it's been a while since I used it is the one that came with the brackets instead of the mag base. I'm just in the market for another Ato and thought maybe I could fix this one instead and save some $ =).

You can still save some money. If you send it in and I cannot repair it we would discount a replacement, it isn't a huge savings but even worst case you would save about $25 over buying a new one even factoring the cost of shipping it to us.

Roger - I have a 5017 controller that seems to have a bad sensor. It does not detect when the water level is low - failing in the off position. Can I get a replacement sensor for it? Thanks...

Yes, send in the controller and we will replace it. Include a note with return address and phone number-

A big thanks to Roger and Tunze USA! I received the Osmolator back today with a brand new optical sensor. Great service!

This is happening to me too. the optical sensor is not detecting the water level. Model is 5017. how much will it cost to replace the senor?

How old is the controller? It is not always the optic sensor, especially if it is more than a few years old and the symptom is not just a constant green light.
