Rescue attempt on a beautiful LPS

A local friend of mine had this amazing coral in his tank for a few months before it had any trouble. In a matter of days it lost about 30% of it's flesh. LPS seem to love my tank and i've saved more than i've lost so we're going to try and save this guy in my tank.

I'm not sure exactly what kind of coral this is, it's being called a Moseleya but i've been unable to find matching pictures by that name. In order to do my best to save it I need to be sure of it's known care requirements so any thoughts on an ID would be appreciated.

Looks like a really sweet piece, hope it pulls through for you.

Are you going to frag it to try and stop the tissue loss or just put it in your tank and hope for the best?

Wish I had some advice but I have no experience rescuing lps.

I hope it recovers, it looks like it was outstanding piece when it was healthy. Do you know what started the reccession?

I'm not sure what caused it to start dying off. It wasn't in my tank so it's history is a "best guess".

I've given it a dip in ReVive coral cleaner and I'm going to watch it closely. I'm doing an extra WC on my reef and i've refreshed my anionic and cationic trace elements. I'm going to try feeding it tonight. If it gets worse I'll put the water pic to it and remove any "unhealthy" looking polyps, followed by another bath. For the most part, I'm just going to feed it and keep an eye on it, hopefully I wont need to cut/blast off nerotic tissue.
 
Low light and low flow. Plus some food and you should have a beauty on your hands. Does not look too bad to me.
 
I just acquired one that has similar tissue loss. It was due to a run away anemone that was going on the rampage. Mine is no where near as nice as yours, though. Very nice coloring there.
 
It really doesn't really look too bad. It's a good thing your friend didn't let it go too much longer though. How long did your friend have it in there tank? When you dipped it did any critters come off of it? I would be very cautious about putting corals like that in your DT. If it were me it I would have quarantined it for about a week or two and did a couple of more dips. As for what to do now I concur with the low light low flow. After seeing the brain and all the other LPS in your tank form the other post you seem to have a LPS thumb lol. That said when it does recover and I'm sure it will you should be sure to frag it and make sure at least a piece of it stays alive. Good luck to you and keep us posted.

It was in my friends tank for 2 months, maybe a bit longer. I agree there was risk involved with putting it in my DT but, I felt that would give it the best chance of survival. I doesed my entire system with Melafix Marine right before it went into the DT. The coral itself got a 15 minute bath in ReVive. No critters were found in the bottom of the bucket. I did take care of a few aptasia on the rock but they weren't near the dying tissue. I'm hopefull that the corals demise was based mostly on too high temp and intense lighting because that would be the easiest to deal with. It was at 80degrees+ and 16-18" under MH/T5 combo.

As of now I'm not seeing any new tissue loss. I haven't been able to entice a feeding response yet but will continue to feed it daily. It is inflating it's flesh, I no longer see skeleton poking through the healthy polyps.

here is another brain i'm attempting to save from different friends tank. This guy had a rough trip, an african flame back decided it's delicious and I had to treat for red flat worms... which I do at 4x the reccomended dose of FWexit.
I actually got this guy to eat a few mysis last night which surprised me because it's only got 1/2 a mouth left.

Looks like you have it under control at this point well done. It looks really good now. It is a very interesting looking coral. Like I said be sure to frag it. Looks like you could cut it in the middle right now and not hit any flesh.
 
I don't think I'm going to frag it because I don't think i'll be able to give it back :) It's becoming a favorite of mine and I'd love to turn it into a showpiece size coral.

Dont mean to hijack your post but I am about to purchase one of these from my lfs. They are gorgeous, and a bit hard to find that are colored up like that. Mine is basically the same colors just about half the size of that one.

Sadly my tank is stressed out right now and this coral has lost an additional polyp. I've managed to get all of my clowns sick, still working on an ID of the illness... different section. I was wishfull in thinking a 3 day dose of Melafix might help the clowns out... now they are in QT. The tank is fish free now but the loss of skimming, carbon and the addition of meds haven't been kind to our Blasto friend. The freshly exposed section of skeleton grew a patch of what looked like red cyno, turkey baster solved that for now.
The tank is getting a couple water changes over the next three days and once it's back to normal i'll give this guy another bath in ReVive if it doesn't turn around with the WC.
One good thing is I won't be feeding the tank more than once every third day for 8 weeks (for the inverts). Should see some huge expansion on the other LPS!
