Rescue, Resuce.. H. Crispa. He won't settle in.

As for covering it while you are gone, unless you can use something very open, like a strawberry container, I would advise against it.
IMO, it would interfere with flow and light. The anemone is already a bit
stressed, covering it with a Tupperware would just add to it. (assuming, I read what you wrote correctly)

BTW -- eons ago, I picked one up that was about that bad, it made a fully recovery, colored up nicely. It was at least 18" across when I lost it during a power outage. Good luck.

Yeah your absolutely right about covering it.. I can't believe that didn't cross my mind. I'll find something more open.

Glad to hear yours made a full recovery, I am hoping mine will as well.

To bad you lost it during a power outage. I get those a lot during hurricane season in Florida. Thats why I either want a BTA or Carpet.

I am sure your sebae will make a nice recovery.

We always have brain farts ;)

I know, it sucked. I also lost my passer angel at that time too. It
was a sad day. :(

So for tonight I am just leaving a couple light pieces of plastic from my modded seio gards. It's hard to explain.. basically its enclosed for the night and during tomorrow. I will go buy a large strawberry basket tomorrow.. I'll post pics once it's setup.

God, tell me about it. I shouldn't have as bad a memory as I do at my age! It is a wonder I can function in society.

I am sorry, Toddrtrex, about your anemone. I have been quite fortunate thus far... knock on wood.

Thanks, but lucky enough for me, I haven't lost any in the last
5 years. (well, there was one, but it was only a condy, and my Clarkii
pair "loved" it to death, so I don't count that one ;) )

But one of these days I would like to try a Crispa again, such a beautiful anemone.

Ah man... bad news guys.

I had the anemone sectioned off and covered... well, apparantley not well enough. My pumps had been off for a full day + so they NEEDED to be turned on (SPS in the tank) . The anemone was pinned down fairly well, with no where to go, slide away , nothing. Well, I was wrong... and I lost the anemone to my powerhead. I feel horrible. I really thought I had this one all figured out while I was at work, but he must have found a way out. Which leads me to believe, he HAD to have been mobile, because he was sectioned off with a "cage" on top of him held down by rubble.

I am bummed... and I am not going to try another banged up anemone ever again. Only healthy thriving specimens from here on in.

Anyways, .. this is all my fault, and I feel bad. It was really not in the worst shape, so I feel stupid. Oh well, I can't do anything about it now.. time to move on .

Sorry guys.

I'd take precautions to prevent it from entering your powerhead intakes as it bounces around the tank.

I've had this happen to me more than once. It sucks.
I think the best powerheads for an anemone tank are the Powerhead 802s They're old school but they have the best shield I've seen. The sponge on the Maxijets are a distant second.

You'll find that most of us skeptics are that way because we've done the same dumb things.

The anemone must have got around to moving himself, because I was very , very confident he had no where to go. I still can't figure out how he got out, he was enclosed and covered.

It does suck. Especially when I DID try hard to prevent that from happening.

I feel for you bro.
Sorry for the loss. I know you were excited and optimistic about the prospect of rescuing it. :(

Yeah... in the end, it is my fault.. no matter what is said, and that's what gets to me most. I could have prevented this had I double , triple checked to make sure things were solid and he had no chance of escaping. That's what gets to me... but as I said there is nothing I can do now but move on...

I think I will go try another sebae, but this time, a healthy specimen. One that will attatch , feed and stay put.

I will use the basket regardless this time around too.

You know what, I think I am going to say forget it to sebaes all together.

A fellow reefer has some BTA clones available.. I figure these would be a wise purchase. Agreed??

Yes, but part of the problem is the size of the tank. The hoops you will have to jump through, the sps it will kill, etc., are just not worth it. Wait for the future upgrade you discussed.

I think they sell plastic ones. You don't have to cover them or feed them! They are compatible with powerheads! They are guaranteed to stay put and they attach only where you want them!

Of course there are alternatives. I am setting up an ugly 75RR for the sole purpose of housing an anemone. Ideally I'd love a tank that was 24x24x24 as an anemone tank but hey, this was given to me free. I think this is the best way to keep them in captivity. I know I can't resist buying them from other reefers so I figure this is the best way to accomodate their needs.
I hate that they tend to find powerhead/CL intakes, I hate that they always seem to want to purch themselves on top of or next to the best looking coral in the tank and FME a separate tank seems to be the best way to go.
Pick up a 30 breeder or something it's a lot easier.

I have kept BTA's in my tank before.. lots of them, with SPS. The Sebae wasn't my first purchase. I have kept BTA's since December 04.

I should have said,. a BTA clone from a reefer would be a better purchase as compared to another sebae.

BTA's aren't a huge worry for me, especially when they are healthy and thriving, I know it will attatch and eat.

Your right either way though, a species only tank is the way to go for anemones. I may just have to do that.

and I lost the anemone to my powerhead

My BTA got sucked into a 2500 GPH skimmer feed with a needle wheel impeller! What did i do? I took the first section of the pump off, luckily only a number of tentacles and a spall part of the external epithelium had been sucked in and the input to the pump is too long for the whole thing to be consumed. I still had a problem though, it was vaccuumed into an infinitely small area due to the force of the pump, inches away for that nasty grinder of an impeller. I just took off the intake section, anemone and all, and jammed it into the pressure side of the pump, it blew out the anemone along with 2500GPH flow!! Anemone made a full recovery without even a scar. Scary as hell though. It has since found a spot it likes and i can sleep easier now!!

It got sucked into this:

except mine had the filter guard off!

You think your having a bad day OCDP well I discoved that the new yellow watchmen goby I bought brought in ich. Now my purple and Blue tang has it. That just ****es me off.

And what makes me mad even more is that the yellow watchmen now is free of ich. I had no idea it had ich. I didn't even see it with its birght yellow. And now he doesn't have it. So far my tomato seems unaffected.

Anyways, sorry to hear about your Sebae. Thats a bummer. What I am thinking is that it reattached once it figured out it couldn't move and it inflated itself and the current took it right into the powerhead. Its quite common when they are stuck. nothing unheard of. I am about 95% thats what happened to you.
