Rescued Favites

Looking for some quick adviceon dealing with a rescued favites colony.

I am based in New Delhi, India and there is virtually nothing available here for the reefer. All my kit is imported from UK and Tokyo, but livestock is the problem.

This morning went to the only LFS in Delhi that stocks marine life and found a 4 inch lime green favites colony (unfortunately it had a haddonni anemoni sat on it!). I bought it in the hope that I can bring it round and back to health.

It is not recessing, but looks a bit skeletal in places, however has filled out a lot since moving to my nano.

Any advice as to what I should do straight off to help it? Nano params are NO2 0, No3 0, ph 8.3, NH4 0.

It has been a long time since I had a Favites (nems are my thing) so any advice gratefully received.

I will post a pic once I sort out the cable, the specimen is never going to win prizes for beauty, it is just pale lime green, but given this is the first coral (yes first LPS/non zoo I have seen in my twice weekly visits to the only shop in the whole city!) that I have seen in 6 months, I am keen to make it a success.

Many thanks

Matt

I would give it a dip in a diluted iodine and tank water solution for about a half hour. Make sure your calcium and alk levels are good and it should be fine.

Thanks for that, unfortunately Iodine supps are not available here, I will step up water changes over the next few days (perhaps 20% a day) and keep my fingers crossed.

Wonder how much it would cost one of us to send you some iodine? :) I recommend you try to feed it after the lights go out. Wait about 20-30 minutes after the tank darkens and try feeding it whatever you have, minced shrimp, squid, fishfood, just about anything, it might even eat chicken (just joking, but I wouldn't be surprised). Spot feed it using a turkey baster or something of the sort, or just drop some food on it with tweezers. Hopefully this will help it to heal and grow. Good luck!
