Restaurant on LI with large reef tank?

Hey,
I'm trying to track down a restaurant on LI that has a very large/long reef tank, anyone know which one my ever fading memory is trying to remember?
Main reason I'm asking is we won't be able to do a night at Atlantis this December, but would still like to organize a gathering of some sort.
Thanks,
Joe

there was one on jericho tpke huntington I think it was called sea haven.. I don't think it's there any more.. what town do you think it was in?

Tai Show East near Dowling college has a long 300g reef tank.

The owners name is Paul, I spoke with him this evening after the meeting. Apparently he has been to several meetings in the past but cannot make it on a Fri. or Sat. as those are hi most hectic days at the restaurant.

Very nice guy; when I first set up my tank, he gave me a bunch of live rock and corals when I mentioned I was in the hobby.

Here you go Joe,

METSUYAN
488 CENTRAL AVENUE
CEDARHURST, NY 11516

Pretty impressive with its 2000 gallon reeftank

That's pretty close to me. Not the kind of place I would have found on my own, though. I'm not a fan of seafood, I prefer my seafood alive, in my tank.
Cedarhurst is easy for me, I could probably make a Friday night there.
Will Calfo be going to this one, as well?

wow

do you know if there are corals on the live rock, or if its FOWLR? I can't tell from the pic.

Rick

I remember some common polyps there, but mostly FOWLR.

Larry, their grill room is good as well.:) But since it's a Kosher restaurant, be prepared for the "kosher" prices if you plan to go there. The tank is really nice, I dont know any other places where we can have dinner next to such a tank (except Atlantis during NERAC :D).

You'll likely need a reservation on a weekend night.

I'm familiar with the area, and you're correct, it ain't the low rent district ;)
On the positive side, as long as you don't park illegally, chances are that your car will still be there when you get back to it.

Both places look nice and would be a nice place to gather some folks for a December gathering for those interested.
Maybe we can trade some frags for appetizers :)

Hey All,

I've been meaning to introduce myself for a few weeks now, but have been a bit busy. This thread seemed a good opportunity as I've been to Metsuyan recently.

I would highly recommend you find a better place for the dinner. The tank will be a major disappointment to any serious reefkeeper. It's just a bunch of Tangs and Surgeonfish swimming over mostly dirty, semi live rock. There are a few brown mushrooms here and there as well.

While I'm at it, I may as well mention that the prices were high, the Sushi was mediocre, the staff was awful and the location/parking a pain.....

Besides that, the place was great :D

Anyway, my name is Scott and I've been keeping various fresh and marine tanks for close to 35 years now. My wife and I live in Lake Grove, and are hoping to catch the next meeting.

Tai Show

Great Tank and food.

Would probably have to schedule meeting for a different time/day for this location.

heya Joe/gang,

have you decided on a weekend for the dinner yet?

(thanks for the Sat meet as well... got to see some really nice folks new and familiar :) Brooklyn and CT in the house too.)
