Return manifold valve selection.

I'm planning a return pump manifold. Feeding display, remote refugium and a 3rd+ for future expansion. My question is that I bought gate valves for my manifold shut offs and my herbie drain. I sort of remember now that I read someplace that you should only use ball valves for pressurized side. Can anybody confirm or point me to information about this aspect of the tank?

You can use gate valves wherever you like. They are especially useful at places where fine tuning of water flow is needed. IMHO ball valves should only be used where either a fully open or fully closed application is needed, use gate valves wherever adjustments are needed.

Use the gate valves. They are ideal for fine tuning and in my experience, have no issues with the pressure. I have been using them on my systems manifold for years and use them on every manifold I build.
